> You know, I don’t have a good answer for that. I want to say that calling someone a dick or a bitch - both gendered insults about someone’s unpleasantness - is not the same as dropping an n-bomb on someone, because you’re not really describing a person’s personality or actions by dropping the n-bomb, you’re just dropping some hate in the hopes of hurting them (or showing hatred for a group to your peers). On the other hand, saying someone is a dick/bitch is a useful description of their personality or behavior\*\* that isn’t just expressing hatred at some innate property they have.\*\*

I think this is where we disagree. A man calling a woman a bitch or a cunt is expressing hatred, whether they mean to or not. That’s my understanding from talking to women who have discussed it with me - that extreme sexism bordering on hate is built into those terms, based on the way they have had those epithets thrown at them over their lives.
