Tom, Are you sure about 1974 being the year of the big ice storm? I seem to remember 1972, at least on the west side of the state. We could be talking about two different storms, since the weather in the east is often quite different from that in the west. ---

different storms. I kow there was a big ice storm in 73 or 74 (I remember my mom calling me to tell me to stay indoors or ‘watch out for falling tree limbs’), and the May 8 snow fall I absolutely know had to be in either 74 or 75 (remembering who I called, had to be after 73 'cause I didn’t know him, couldn’t have been 76 'cause I was seeing some one else). these were in mid MI (E. Lansing, home of the Spartans ---

wring, Ah, East Lansing, home of the Spartans. That explains a lot. Funny things happen there, I understand. Why, I even remember when time stood still there, a couple of years back:D . Anyway, in '74 I was living in Marquette, so I wouldn’t have noticed anything unusual about snow on May 8th. gex gex, Having just shoveled 5" of “Michigan Spring” out of my 300’ driveway, I can assure you that you are not missing anything of great value right now. Sure, snow is great in December and January, when it’s a pleasant break from the dreariness of late fall, but this obnoxious joke on the part of Mother Nature is just depressing. ---

I moved to Michigan from Oregon back in early January. I’ve got to say that I’m getting a kick out of how this area deals in spring. Full of suprises. Personally, I like cold weather, so this is just fine with me. Except for the freezing rain. Nothing good about freezing rain. ---

This morning, I woke up and looked outside at the trees. My first reaction was “blossoms! It’s spring!” Please note, I have terrible vision. Then I put on my glasses and realized that the “blossoms” were, in fact, little icicles. It was in the 70s on Wednesday! Of course, there was snow on the ground on Monday morning. I’m from California, where the key word to the weather isn’t “warm” or “sunny”, but “stable.” This schizophrenic weather is driving me batshit. ---

I’d kill for snow here…we have half an inch of ICE outside right now. The back yard of the apartment complex looks like a skating rink. Looks like I’m stranded here for the next couple of days…the apartment snow plow and salt truck don’t run on weekends. Thanks, guys! ☹ ---

If I could get my car to the edge of the apartment complex, I’d be OK. Mind you, the city of Niagara Falls _sucks_ at snow removal. The wag here is that they keep the snow on the roads so that you can glide over the potholes. ---

Hello Again, phatlewt and I were in my kitchen yesterday cooking up a storm. HelloAgain and I were both griping about this bullshit cold snap. phatlews, being the only Michigan native in the room, would have none of it. He said we should know better. This is Michigan. In April, in Michigan, there is always one nasty storm that feels like winter. I continued to whine, regardless.
