Today i went to the Giants-Brewers game in SF with my gf, and family. It was a nice day, sunny and warm, with a nice cool breeze. Everything was perfect…except for the spastic heckling moron with the little orange plastic bullhorn. Said spactic heckling moron seemed to have a very small repartoir of heckles, which he proceeded to constantly yell at the poor left feilder for most of the 12 inning game: 1. Mr poopypants! ( I’m underwhelmed!) 2. Aflac! (huh? I know what it means…but …huh?) Of course it wasn’t enough to just keep calling the same two stupid heckles over and over again, he had to jump up on his seat over and over again to get the proper effect. I fail to see how this helps, except to make everyone else around you want to shove you down the stairs. In fact, it almost came to that when he heckled some big dude walking past on the stairs. Big guy got extremely angry. He spent 5 minutes practically begging for the guy not to clock his lights out, trying to explain that he was just a bit crazy. Fortunately I was 3 rows back, and so was able to contrain my own anger. Why do people think that behavior like this is acceptable in public? Why wasn’t he kicked out when several people complained? Why wasn’t his ass kicked when he went to far with the big guy? How come I didn’t kick his ass myself on principle? Ah well, some questions don’t have answers, just wanted to rant. Fortunately, we got the tickets for free, and we still managed to have a good time, in spite of the man that I will forever think of as Mr Poopypants. ---

So, by giving in to your civilized instincts, and refusing to beat him over the head with his bullhorn, followed by stuffing it thoroughly into the orifice of your choice, you simply reinforced the idea that he **can** get away with acting like a six year old. I respect your right to rage, but… “spastic”?? Now, I’m no Political Correctness nazi, but I think “spastic” is frowned upon as an insult by most… …Unless he actually DID have cerebral palsy? Why do people do this at sporting events? Because they seem to think that because they paid X number of $'s for a ticket, they act like fucking degenerates and scream profanities at the top of thier lungs in public that a Turkish sailor wouldn’t even dream of whispering to himself. Never mind that there are probably young children around around, hell in a lot of cases they are the kids of the Scumbag doing the screaming. I’ve always been mystified by the devotion that people attach to athletic teams. It’s really fucking scary. They never stop to think that in the grand and even not-so-grand scheme of things, the fact that their team has won X number of world/conference/league titles/championships is beyond utterly insignificant and meaningless. The fact that the san Antonio Spurs won the NBA title this year doesn’t mean that San Antonio has somehow moved up on the list of most appealing US cities. It’s like getting to college and announcing that you were on the Homecoming Committee all four years in high school. NO ONE CARES. And if they do care, they have serious issues that need to be dealt with. ---

**pierre** , “spastic” has a different connotation in the US than it does in the UK. Over here (US), it is used as an adjective meaning “of or relating to spasms”, or more loosely, acting weird and erratic. “Spastic” in the UK, as I understand it, is generally a derogatory slang word equivalent to “retard,” which is offensive. So, yes, in the US, it’s politically correct to refer to someone as “spastic”, because all you’re implying is that they’re behaving erratically. ---

OK… then I apologise for overreacting. I’ve done a bit of work with cerebral palsy sufferers, and the condition is no laughing matter. “Spastic” I find a very offensive remark. I wasn’t aware the term meant something milder in the States. You live and learn. ---

I have tried to enjoy watching sports (believe me, life in this college town would be easier if I did), but the magic honestly evades me. No sports fan has ever been able to assist me with it, either. Apparently you get it or you don’t. I don’t. ---
