You might find yourself happier and healthier if you invested your time in learning some anger management techniques or coping skills instead of pestering law enforcement in a futile attempt to get your neighbors in trouble. ---

In a multi-family unit, yes, they do, because neighbors call. The family living above will call because they don’t want their children breathing it in and, unlike cigarette smoke, in most states it is still illegal. The elderly people next door will call because they still believe the scare films from the 1960s. And an officer will come, and if the property manager doesn’t address the issue, then the family and elderly couple will leave, and the visits will make the building seem less desirable. The police won’t do anything (see **pbbth** ’s post), but it doesn’t mean that they won’t be called. It’s only fucking ignorant to think “it’s just pot, it’s not bothering anybody.” Like cigarettes, it bothers me (and my neighbors on either side, when the people on our back fence smoke outdoors, but these are all private homes). It fucking stinks, it gets onto every fucking surface, it stinks up common areas, and it costs significantly more to clean up the rental unit when it becomes vacant (which is why I also don’t allow it in a single family unit and will use it as a means to terminate a lease). When you own the building, you want all the tenants to shit rainbows. When that doesn’t happen, good management do its best to keep tenants who (a) pay on time and (b) don’t disturb other tenants (who hopefully pay on time). Thus, if the OP’s building manager is any good and is informed, and assuming both pay rent on time, come lease renewal one won’t be asked back. Generally speaking, if one or two people are complaining, another one or two are going to just leave without saying a word. For the record, I could care less if you smoke pot, eat it in brownies, whatever. Just don’t do it on my property - and if you are renting from me, it is _ **my** _ property, which you have permission to use as long as you follow the rules. One of those rules - no illegal activities. ---

Plenty of pot, being smoked in the apartment beneath mine. I’m not sure what “unfounded” has to do with this. An NYPD officer called him and essentially said “We don’t want to come over there and deal with this, please don’t make us.” He took extra precautions for a little while until some other issue unrelated to him annoyed the neighbor into moving, ---

So, I - the person who lived in the building already who is law-abiding - is now a PITA for wishing to continue to live in a drug-free environment, while the pot-smoking law-breaker gets the courtesy call from the NYPD. Asked if having to smell pot smoke in one’s residence fell under that category, or would I just be regarded as a crank of I filed a complaint. She told me to walk over to the Precinct and file my complaint if I wished. Now, that obviously seems a PITA irrational blah blah blah response by the druggies who are posting into this thread. But, yanno, I could just give two fucks for what the whole lot of the drug-users have to say. Or think. If they’re capable of thinking. ---
