He took more than enough votes away from Gore to throw the election to Bush, and he did it by lying through his teeth. He lied when he started his campaign by telling his supporters he had every intention of winning. He lied when he said that the Democrats and Republicans were the same. Every time a Women’s Health Clinic shuts down, tell us there was no difference. Every time the polution laws are relaxed, tell us there’s no difference. Every time The FDA is weakened, tell us there’s no diference. Every time the President rubberstamps a business-friendly piece of legislation, tell us there’s no difference. As far as I’m concerned, he will go down in history as the man who sold out the country for cold, hard cash. I hope he fucking chokes on it. ---

Man, I started a thread in MPSIMS for Stoidela’s imminent meltdown, but this is so much better! I get to watch a whole slew of you get your panties in a knot! Somehow, I can’t help laughing. On topic…did Nader really swing FL to Bush? The fact that Bush won the seniors vote about 60-40, and the Jewish turnout was lower than expected? Blame your own candidate. If an incumbent VP (and such a _smart_ guy, too! :rolleyes: ) in good economic times can’t win, it ain’t nobody else’s fault. ---

The GOP with Congress- AND the Oval office (and soon, the Supreme court). OHMYGAWD!!! And, it is Naders fucking fault. The only reason to vote for him was to give the Green party 5%, but Nader repudiated their platform- so he is no more “Green” than Gore. However, it is still just possible that Gore will put victory from the jaws of defeat. ---

Folks, grow the fuck up. Al Gore lost. Let me repeat: **Al Gore** lost. He did this on his own. The fact that some voters chose “None of the Above” doesn’t change the fact that more voters wanted Bush in office than Gore. Granted, these people are friggin’ nuts, but they outnumbered us sane folks this time around, which is part of the risk we take in this whole democracy thing. Might I suggest blaming the Bush voters, as they’re certainly more at fault here than Ralph Nader. ---

I’m not going to blame the people who voted for Bush. At least Dubya was making an honest run for the office. Nader was in it for the money, and he didn’t mind screwing over the Democratic Party to get it. ---

Maybe. I’m sure he actually wanted to win (come on, wouldn’t you?), but was being realistic by settling for the funding. Call him a whore if you want, but realize, though, that he was never going to see a dime of that money. This is a guy worth millions that lives on $25,000 a year, giving the rest away to various (often) worthy causes. That money would go to establish a viable third party (a noble enough goal on paper, anyway). I can’t see this being successful without federal funding. I agree, though, that it’s a shame he had to start with this election, as close as it ended up being. Still voted for him, though. Gore had my state locked up tight, so I don’t feel a bit guilty. ---

And believe me, if (hypothetically) there were a bunch of Bush supporters whining about Gore winning (if Gore had been the won to win, that is), I would be calling them “a bunch of petty little pussies”, too. ---

to those of you who say you seriously consider packing up and leaving the country… please don’t. It is people like yourselves, passionate, committed people who voice opinions and work to make a difference that makes the U. S. the great country it is. And I mean that not only to the mostly (it seems to me) Mr. Gore supporters who have posted to this thread, but equally for those who supported Mr. Bush. Also, it looks as if the Buchanan or Browne voters could have swung the Florida election as well. Nader’s been a thorn in the side of whatever he can manage since the sixties. It’s what he does. He’s focused on the long-term. Long-term, Democrats are going to have to move left to win, and it’s very doubtful that Bush could wreck the country in four years.
