I took Discrete Math at UTexas from the guy that wrote the book and it was still a pain in the ass.
Oooh! I had one of those! Also Discrete Math. He talked to the blackboard. Mumbled, actually. When we asked him to speak up, and turn to face us, he just mumbled to the board a little louder.
That class sucked unwashed llama ass. There were two of us who had half a clue about discrete math so we held informal tutorials in the fishbowl twice a week to try and save our grades, somehow (so we wouldn’t have to take this fucker again). Those of us who wanted to survive did. The others retook the class over and over a few times.
Courage, brave little toaster, courage!
Edited to add: Dunno how far you’re into things right now, but maybe this could be of help (looking through my bookshelf) – this is a very basic textbook, with a geeeeentle introduction to discrete math, but hey, sometimes that’s what one needs when the foundation is shaky (Neville Dean, Essence of Discrete Mathematics, Prentice Hall, ISBN 0-13-345943-8). Also, for quick ref, check out: http://archives.math.utk.edu/topics/discreteMath.html ) Yes, Elly is a total math geek.
