Fuck you for immediately demonstrating WHY we needed the Voter Protection Act. The god damn body wasn’t even cold yet before you were all over it. Fuck you for calling a point of order on Wendy Davis for PUTTING ON A BACK BRACE during her filibuster, and another one for bringing up RU486. How the fuck is discussing RU486 off topic when this miserable piece of legislation says a woman has to take all ‘abortion pills’ in a doctor’s office and not in their own homes? And fuck you even more for changing the changed the timestamp on the vote after it clearly showed the vote was taken after midnight, while the entire fucking thing was being livestreamed. You arrogant fucks. Seriously. Fuck you. ---

I was there. We protested so loud that it delayed voting on the bill past midnight - till 12:03am - which effectively killed it. The Republicans then tried to change the timestamps to say it was voted on before midnight and it took 2 more hours for them to give into the evidence. Fuck 'um. ---

I was there. I was there Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. And I’ll write up what happened from my perspective after I’ve had some sleep. But first: a hearty fuck you to Dewhurst, Duncan, Campbell, Deuell, and really most of the Republican side. You pretended to care about tradition, decency, and decorum and you shat all over yourselves. I have never been all that politically active before. But I will do everything in my power to get those weasels out of office. Draft Wendy for Governor. Bless Leticia Van den Putte, bless Ellis, Watson, Whitmire, even bless Lucio, poor bastard, who sincerely had the best of intentions and couldn’t believe how dastardly the opposition could be. And you know what? Despite all of that: we killed the bill. WE killed it. From behind closed doors, hundreds – thousands – of protesters shouted so loudly and for so long that they couldn’t call the roll. We stopped that vote from passing until 12:03. Protesters actually did something that mattered, guys. Even if they pass this sucker in a second special session, they just woke up Texas’s progressives. We scored a major victory tonight, and that might just start the fires burning. ---

[The Associated Press is now reporting](http://news.yahoo.com/texas-abortion-bill-falls-challenge-080130212.html) that the Republicans held a meeting and decided that the vote came too late to pass. Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst is quoted as saying that he cannot sign the bill. ---

Wait, what was the bill in question? The OP talks about both the recent ruling on the Voting Rights Act and about RU486, and I’m having a hard time thinking of _anything_ for which both of those could be relevant. ---

I don’t really have strong feelings one way or another about the bill, but isn’t it sort of a bad sign for the democratic process and the rule of law and all when the legislature can’t vote on a bill because of an angry mob? You might like the result in this case, but isn’t the process troubling? ---

The bill that was first filibustered and then defeated would have banned abortions after 20 weeks. The Voting Rights Act thing was a bill that had already passed to require and provide voter IDs that Texas was waiting on the federal government to ok. Now that the Supreme Court struck down preclearance, Texas said they were implementing the law (because they no longer needed federal ok). ---
