I don’t care. A fetus can’t remember it. Its like punching a coma patient, a completely victimless “crime”.
In “Your view”. And I’m more than willing to respect your right to “Your view” no matter how ridiculous I find it.
But the minute you decide “Your view” over rides “My view” , and begins to affect the quality of “My” life and society at large… We gots problems brah.
It’s true that humanity’s history is rife with cruelty.
But that’s not a proper basis for determining the law. The law lays out guidelines aspirational in nature and sanctions for when humans fail to follow those guidelines.
Not entirely true. While we don’t mandate “access to someone else’s body” in the strict medical sense, we have no problem imposing child support payments upon non-custodial parents. We even impose them on person proven to be not biologically responsible for the child in question, under the apparent theory that it’s valuable for society and the child that parents support their child.
Yes?
But by the same token, it’s my view that the law should forbid you from raping a coma patient.
Why can’t you dismiss it the same way? My view has now affected your view (or, to make this less distasteful, let’s assume i’m talking not to you, but to a person who wishes the freedom to have sex with a persistently vegetative patient. His response mirrors yours: my view has now begun to affect the quality of his life. We have problems.
Brah.
What makes him wrong, but you correct?
Both of these “arguments” are incredibly stupid.
Human beings care a lot about non-sapient life feeling pain. I suspect you might think the word “sapient” means something other than it means, tho.
And punching a comatose patient is most definitely not a victimless crime. Any attempt to justify this line of thought will only subject your arguments to ridicule and put your posts firmly in the “parody of thought” category.
Can we not turn this into another debate about abortion? The thread is about asshole Texas Republicans. Abortion debates are boooooooooooooooooooring and no one will change their mind, especially not Bricker, who is a Catholic. Also, Bricker, good on you for being consistent and hating the death penalty. Very cool.
You missed my little addendum Brick. “And society at large”. Your crews views are unsustainable. No abortion, no birth control, no sex ed.
The logical extension of your rhetoric is that every egg and every sperm must unite or its a sin, adding another head to an already overtaxed world.
Dwindling resources, no means to turn the population faucet off. Should end well.
Sorry Miss Elizabeth.
Yeah, can you believe those cunthoses and their “Make it up as we go” shenanigans ?
I honestly expected a better argument from you. But no, extracting financial support is no where near the same realm as claiming authority over someone else’s biological processes. That is more akin to slavery than a state enforced financial obligation.
Sharing your body parts with your offspring is fully voluntary, even if you are legally mandated to provide for them financially.
Though, I agree with miss elizabeth. Let’s get back to bashing Texas Republicans. I want these buffoons publicly cross examined and asked how they reconcile going against scientific evidence (e.g. fetal pain) and testimony from medical experts regarding public health best practices and sound patient care. If these regulations are supposed to be “protecting women” <snort/>, how come they are not imposed on any other type of medical procedure? Shouldn’t all people deserve the same “protection” when seeking medical care
I know!! Fucking assholes.
Its not just Texas, they’ve all gone barking mad, all across the country. Where the Republicans are in power, they’ve lost even the slightest sense of compromise. Where they cannot win fair and square, they will cheat. And not just a bit of cutesy legal maneuvers, but totally crude power plays.
I’ve checked on that oft quoted statistic about 80% of Texans being opposed to these special sessions. And a clear majority are of the opinion that there is sufficient laws about abortion as it stands. Presumably, Texas Republicans can read. Wouldn’t bet the farm, but presumably.
To what do they owe fealty, if not democracy? If the will of the people doesn’t matter, what does, what takes its place?
Shouldn’t there be some condemnation from the Republican side, here? You guys who come down here and tell us what hypocrites we are, you got nothing to say? Don’t you talk to other Republicans, what do you say to them? Your country needs you.
This is not conservative, this is reactionary extremism, this is right wing Leninism. I’ve pretty much done what I can, and it ain’t much. How about you? You gotta phone? You gotta internet? You know people?
Shit, I’ve totally lost my sense of humor. Hate it when that happens. Hate it worse that its necessary. Fuck.
Gay marriage, school prayer, creationism – these are all issues that are simply going to go away, eventually, as issues, with generational change. But I have my doubts as to whether abortion will ever fade as an issue.
No, friend Bricker, it isn’t. It’s going to create a human life. Not a heartbeat, not a dna profile, but it will build the consciousness and experience that we value in a human. If you’re laying brain-dead on a gurney, with a heart-lung machine oxygenating your cells, you’re not alive in any meaningful sense.
We pull the plug on those people. And pulling the plug on a potential human is just as well.
You don’t know that at all. Your insipid little attack aside, I’m not saying that abortion restrictions are illegal, I’m saying only a degenerate clod who outsources his beliefs to stinking bronze-age primitives would agree with you.
Again, you misunderstand what is happening. I’m not saying it’s illegal. I’m saying you’re a gibbering twat for supporting it.
I wish everyone who is alive and is for late abortions, was aborted, and then would come back with their opinion.
Just the kind of well-reasoned and thoughtful analysis the situation calls for!
The [del]McCain[/del][del]Romney[/del]next campaign could use a man like him! He could be just the break they’ve been looking for!
Well, in order to determine who these people are, I suppose you’ll have to define what is meant by “late abortions,” A stupid guy with an opinion.
We’ll wait.
Absolute perfection. This sums up my bewilderment completely.
Was a joke, don’t freak out. Also, it was hilarious. But the point remains, fetal pain, especially in the context of a fetus that is to be aborted, is irrelevant. They won’t remember it, it matters little what and how we eliminate it
