A friend of mine has lost both his parents in the past few months - and just found out he’ll be losing his job later this year. Any one of those would be a pretty big shit sandwich for anyone. All three in such a short span of time? Yeah, fuck you, Universe. That’s just cruel. ---

Actually, when you take into account [gamma-ray emissions from black holes](http://www.space.com/24354-gravitational-lens-gamma-ray-blazar-burst.html), whose gravity was once believed to be so strong that not even light could escape, it’s clear that the Universe both sucks _and_ blows. ---

We have my husband’s best friend staying with us at the moment - he is currently getting divorced, the house he was staying in got sold, and then, when he was a couple days away from moving in with us, he lost his job. Oh yeah, the other house he bought with his wife can’t be re-financed to take his name off the title as part of the divorce settlement because _she_ just got laid off, too. Life, eh? Sometimes it just won’t stop kicking you in the jubblies. Not to top your friend or anything - that’s a competition nobody wants to be in. 🙂
