Yeah, in all fairness, it is probably just the install of Winamp3 I have. I do suffer from odd crashes that seem to be video card/driver related, so I think it’s Winamp having problems with that. I don’t have much recall of Winamp 2; I used Sonique on the Mac for all my music needs up till recently. ---

Just out of interest, is there a skin available to make Winamp look like an ordinary Windows app? (I loathe skinned apps). ---

**Mangetout** , the default skin is very inocuous looking. It’s not very “Windows-y” IIRC but it’s basic black I believe. ---

I’m pretty happy with Winamp 3. But, I did try it before, probably just after it had been released, and for some reason I cannot remember went back to version 2. But I’m back to 3 with no problems. ---

IIRC Winamp have a bit thing up the top of their page where you can download version 2 – which is where I got it after I decided I don’t like 3. 2 loads in miliseconds and takes almost no proccessing power. 3 bogs down my system. Music sounds exactly the same on both. ---

A Windows version of iTunes is coming out eventually. Just so you know… I had all sorts of trouble with MusicMatch JukeBox. It just WOULD NOT work on my PC. I didn’t like Winamp all that much either. On my PC, I just use Windows Media Player. On my Mac, I use iTunes. 🙂 ---

I just personally don’t like Media Player cuz… it’s not at all intuitive and it’s huge and stuff. I dunno, I just dislike it. I’ll definitely check out iTunes for the PC. I \<3 Mac apps! ---

Actually, Winamp is still supporting and updating Version 2. Even the Moderators on their message boards admit that Version 2 uses less overhead and is the player of choice if you are only going to play music. They brought out Version 3 to compete with Windows Media Player, and (as far as I am concerned) it is just too close to a beta version, although it is supposed to be a full release. I would wait for a few updates before going to Version 3. I have never had problems with Version 2. (I think the latest revision of V2 is 2.90). ---

I only use winamp because the visualisations are superior to WMP - plus I couldn’t find a way to get WMP to run them full-screen. This might seem like the most trivial reason for choosing it, but I use Winamp for the BGM at a youth club with a video projector; the kids love the eyecandy. ---

THe latest Windows Media Player has a feature that, when minimized, turns the taskbar item for the program into a mini-interface. I keep it minimized all the time, and uninstalled Winamp. No visual noise (though I kind of miss the rabidhamster R2 Extreme visualization every now and again from Winamp 2), decent interface… my god, MS does get things right, sometimes. ---

I have one thing to be grateful to Musicmatch for, it made me re-organise my tags. Mmmmm, excessive anal retentivism (or whatever that word would be…) I’ve never had any problems with Winamp3, although it takes AGES to load. Oh well.
