[major hijack] I just don’t understand all of this hate against “fat” people. It makes me sad. How can the people here who are judging fat people (just exercise, and stop eating so much, pig!) possibly understand why some people are overweight? And why is it such a sin against everything to be fat? (Yeah, I know, they’re causing everyone to pay more for health insurance…much more so than the anorexics and bulimics who are trying so hard to be the thin ideal that society wants them to be…) I hate to be the goody-goody, but I just am. Can’t we just be nice to each other? People who are judging fat people…are there people you love who are fat? Would you be such harsh critics of those you love? Or maybe you would approach them with a little more understanding? What do you think they would say if they saw the hurtful things you wrote about fat people? Maybe she wasn’t even buying donuts for herself. I know a woman that I used to work with who bought donuts twice a week for our staff meetings. People buy donuts for each other all the time. But if she was buying for herself…so what? Maybe she was embarassed that she had to write a check, because she realized she didn’t have what she needed at the last minute. So what if she made a mistake? Have some compassion! I know, the world would be such a boring place if everyone was more understanding towards each other. Wouldn’t it just be terrible? If you’re lucky enough to have a high metabolism (e.g. Crafter\_Woman), then there’s nothing to discuss. But the converse is almost _always_ true, i.e. if you’re fat then it is very likely caused by overeating, not exercising, etc. In other words, if a person is fat, they should _recognize_ that they’re eating more than they’re burning, and make appropriate adjustments to their diet & exercise plans. The implication here, of course, is the belief that “being fat is not good.” From a health and well-being standpoint, this is (in general) a true statement.
