I should have walked out when I saw her. She looked fresh out of beauty school. I should have left when she turned me to face the wall instead of the mirror. I should have left when I got the nervous feeling as she was raking my scalp with her little comb. But, no, I waited until I saw a three inch piece of hair fall onto my lap. Wait!!! That’s a lot more than an inch!! I only wanted an inch…I told you that I have been trying to grow my hair for two years…Please…stop… Then I complained, and you argue with me and keep calling me “Honey,” in your most condescending tone, and then I turned to ask the little dude as the register if someone else could finish my hair and I really got the pile on. You BOTH argued with me about the hair cut. Face it, that’s not what I wanted!! I am freaking out, I am crying, and you are yelling at me and telling me to leave if I don’t like it. Fuck you!!! I should have known better than to go to a fucking mall salon. I learned my lesson long ago that you don’t try to save a buck when it comes to your hair. The little dude kept telling me to shut up, he actually said that to me. I was hysterical, I still feel a bit hysterical. You both are lucky I didn’t smack you. I felt like it. I had to really restrain myself to keep from grabbing your tiny little face and squeezing it. You were too close in proximity to me, and you better thank God that I’ve been through anger management or it would have gotten a lot uglier. I walked out of that salon with wet hair and half a haircut, I was crying and red and looked a mess. There’s no doubt the people who saw me knew where I had been. Yours is the only salon in the mall. When I got to my regular salon I was told that you hacked my hair up!! It was terribly uneven and there was no method to your madness!! Thank God for my stylist, she did a great job of damage control and fixed the fucking mess you made. Still, I’m not happy. I didn’t want my hair this short, I don’t like it this way. I wanted one fucking inch off!! How difficult is that?? ---

I once – a few months ago, actually – went to a similar place wanting a trim. Maybe a quarter inch off of my hair, which is all pretty much one length. And to trim my bangs. She managed the trim part fine, but when it came to my bangs, she ran into problems. “Cut them straight across, please,” I told her, about three times. “Just straight across.” This was a challenge, apparently, and she SAID AS MUCH to the other woman in the place! When she was done, I had bangs cut in a curve, which I loathe. I fixed them myself at home. Having been a perpetually broke student for a few years, I learned to trim my own bangs in between real cuts instead of paying somebody five bucks to do it. And to think there was somebody in there getting their hair colored! NO WAY IN HELL! ---

I got my hair cut the night before my senior prom at a barber shop (remember those?). I should have known something was up when I saw about 12 Coors tall boy cans stacked up in on the shelf behind the barber chair. The whacked, and I mean whacked, my hair into a perfect “Calvin and Hobbs” hair cut, which, I assure you, was not cool in 1975. My sister-in-law did damage control before the prom, but boy, you should see my prom pictures. ---

I feel for you. And I’ve been there. Once I had about 4 inches of brown hair growing out. Had blonde on the rest. i went into the Mall, it was apaprently only for African hair, but it was there. i asked them to dye the blonde part medium brown, to match my roots. They put something on, put me under a dryer! It came out coal black. :mad: Finally found a good salon (Phases) and they fixed it. As for hair cutting, my hair is loooong, so I trim the bottom myself. Free.(I have no bangs) ---

My barber was drunk and _standing in his bathtub_ when he cut my hair last time! If he wasn’t so damn good looking and intelligent, I would go somewhere else to get my haircut for free! did I mention I cut my own hair? ---

NO WAY IN HELL! \*\* Completely identify with this one. Perhaps the most important lesson I’ve learnt in life is NEVER let hairdressers loose on your fringe (bangs to you). Nothing you do yourself can ever be as bad as what they do. Tell them you want your fringe below your eyebrows - you’ll get it cut halfway up your forehead like Louise Brooks. Ask for it straight and full, you’ll get it curved and layered. I like mine straight, long and flat, so what they do is cut it curved and sort of puff it out with the blow-dryer so I look like a housewife from the early 1970s. With a bit of practice, you can always do it yourself - just remember to underestimate the amount you want off, especially if the hair is wet, as it always dries shorter. ---

I cut my own hair too. I pretty much always have. That way, if I don’t like it, I only have myself to blame. Buck up - it will grow out and now you have a great story. As an aside, perhaps you should contact the BBB - screaming at the client and refusing to do what she want’s doesn’t seem like spectacular business acumin. ---

I should preface my comment with my mother would always cut my hair like a boy when she was mad at me. She was also cheap and would get friends to do it. My hair look like shit all the while I was growing up. When I was about 12 my mother had my cousin’s girlfriend (who was going thru beauty school) cut my shoulder length hair. She did it in the kitchen so I had no mirror. It took her 3 hours to cut it. YES 3 &#(@)&^ hours! She put her hands on top of my head when she was done and said “well maybe if we put a barrette in it it will look better” Then I knew I was in trouble. She had butchered my long hair into some sort of short uneven shag. I could not go to school the next day. Instead Karen Zumba (the cousins girlfriend) took me to a friend of hers salon. The salon was called THE MOP CHOP SHOP. I was mortified as I sat in the chair and watched the girl cut my short hair even shorter. Her comment when she was done was “if she wears earrings it will look better” I was forced to go to school looking like a boy. I am scarred for life. ---

Though I did it myself a couple of days ago because they’re getting too long, and I’m too broke to go see him for a couple of weeks. 🙂 I went to the cheap place because I figured hey, it’s a trim, nothing elaborate. There are a few things in life where $$ does make a difference. Haircuts are one of them. I’m a guy, and not a particularly fussy one about his looks at that, but I still know better than to go to a mall chop shop or some $5 barber shop. What were you thinking? ---

I am so sorry to hear about this… I am a stylist, practicing for 20 years and I cannot tell you how many freakin’ haircuts I FIX every day. Some are “home jobs” (and I am not the anal controlling hairdresser who scolds, because usually these occur due to salon fear or lack of funds), but the ones that come from other salons make me CRAZY! The Board of Cosmetology in my state doesn’t gives a rat’s hiney if you know how to cut hair… only that you sanitize, sanitize, sanitize and harm no one (important, of course). Was this a “chain salon” ie: Regis, Fantastic Sams, etc? If so, contact the corporate office (Regis has a website), and COMPLAIN. These chain salons do quality control, and though your hair cannot be replaced, someone will be reprimanded, and you will receive an apology. I don’t work for them, but handled a similar situation for a family member. Wish I could refer you to someone to “fix” it… word of mouth is always the best choice when choosing a stylist!!! I had to shave my head because of a guard falling off an electric razor. There was just no way to hide the bald chunk. Turns out I looked pretty good that way, and I kept shaving my head for about two years. Then I went to visit some family who live in Georgia, and the looks I got…apparently some places a haircut is still a political statement. If I was self-employed I think I’d shave my head again. ---

I’ve always hated haircuts because they never look that good on me. So I usualy just try to keep it a decent length and layered but I can’t cut it myself worth a damn (cosmotology stinks! I took that and all I ever learned that I still use today is how to do a basic manicure. Helps to keep my nails nice) I haven’t had a haircut since last October I think it was and I have made a mental note _never_ to attempt short hair again. I got called sir so many times I was getting extremely pissed off. I mean I _know_ I’m tall and dress in mens clothing half the time but please, when you’re staring me in the face (or even directly in the breasts!) and hearing my talk for the last 10 minutes you should realize _I am not a male_ no matter _how_ [short\*](http://purgatory.thistown.com/image.cgi?id=19) my hair is. I mailed letter to the Regis corporate office, the salon I went to, and the mall manager. I also called and made a complaint. They were very apologetic and asked what they could do to make it up to me. I told them to fire the assholes who were mean to me. I don’t know if they will or not, but they are sending me a certificate for products. I told them I would never let another Regis employee touch my hair. Fortunately I did go to a nice salon and have it fixed, but I still don’t like it. It wasn’t what I wanted and I think it looks ugly. No amount of certificates will make me feel better about that. ---

I’ve been going to the same woman for about 6 years. She was a friend of mine from highschool, and after she got done with cosmetology college, I became a faithful client. I’ve followed her to about 5 different salons, and will continue to do so. I was unfaithful once, and learned my lesson the hard way. 😃 ---

In Dublin, the _cheap_ salons start at around €30 (US $34). I have extremely difficult hair to cut - it’s very thin and straight and so any mistakes are glaringly obvious. The last cut I had cost €35 and they made a mess of it, the only place I’ve found that doesn’t make mistakes charged €65 last time I was there.
