On my DVD player I can jump to the next chapter. In the case of my Monsters Inc DVD the next 8 chapters are previews for movies…

So far, I’ve not run into a DVD that won’t allow me to skip, and I’ve got about 150 discs in my collection.

That said, the INTERPOL and copyright warnings often won’t let you pass them by, but some will allow it.

Surely this has nothing to do with Windows, and everything to do with the player used? I could just as easily write a skippable player in Windows as in Linux. I think you mean that if one buys a DVD program from a commercial company that has a licence from the DVD consortium, it is more likely to implement their specification in full. This has zip to do with MS, except that commercial companies tend to write for their OS by preference because it’s more popular.

Probably _The Hours_. I’m hypothesizing this because _Star Trek Nemisis_ has a “Paramount DVD” logo at the beginning which leads to the “Main Menu” and “Previews” options. One of the previews is for…_The Hours_. I’m guessing this is the new norm for Paramount Pictures.

I just hit the _Menu_ key for that disc and skip all the previews.

I suppose I wouldn’t be bothered too much if they only had these nonskippable ads on rental DVDs. Just so long as the copy that _I pay for_ doesn’t.

That being said, sometimes it’s kind of funny to see old commercials from 10-15 years ago. I recently watched an old movie I had recorded off of TBS in the late 80’s. Some of those commercials are hillarious. And don’t even get me started on the hairstyles!

I’m sure the novelty would wear off after the second time. 😃
