Surely this has nothing to do with Windows, and everything to do with the player used? I could just as easily write a skippable player in Windows as in Linux. I think you mean that if one buys a DVD program from a commercial company that has a licence from the DVD consortium, it is more likely to implement their specification in full. This has zip to do with MS, except that commercial companies tend to write for their OS by preference because it’s more popular.
Probably The Hours. I’m hypothesizing this because Star Trek Nemisis has a “Paramount DVD” logo at the beginning which leads to the “Main Menu” and “Previews” options. One of the previews is for…The Hours. I’m guessing this is the new norm for Paramount Pictures.
I suppose I wouldn’t be bothered too much if they only had these nonskippable ads on rental DVDs. Just so long as the copy that I pay for doesn’t.
That being said, sometimes it’s kind of funny to see old commercials from 10-15 years ago. I recently watched an old movie I had recorded off of TBS in the late 80’s. Some of those commercials are hillarious. And don’t even get me started on the hairstyles!
