> I had the same reaction to that line. I would be fine meeting a stranger to see a museum, go on a Segway tour with a guide, or try out an interesting restaurant. But I don’t think I would agree to go hiking with a guy from a dating site.

The “hiking” was the [The Cliff Walk](http://www.cliffwalk.com/) in Newport, RI. It is an an extremely pretty ocean hike that takes you along the rocky shore among the many Gilded Age mansions but it is well developed and there are always other reasonably nearby. I wouldn’t invite someone on a hike into the deep woods or mountains for a first date but there are many hiking areas in the Greater Boston area that suggest an outdoorsy fun afternoon rather than creepy. I have an standing offer to take someone skydiving on a date if they have never been (I haven’t either) but nobody has taken me up on that one yet.
