[/QUOTE] I’m not a member of any military, so I don’t know first-hand, but yeah, wearing an unearned decoration does seem like the kind of thing that would make other soldiers feel like pounding them. I just get the feeling that Lust4Life is a troll. I can’t point out any evidence for it, though, which is why i’ve not pointed it out to the mods. It’s a completely subjective opinion, so feel free to dismiss it out of hand. 🙂 ---

I don’t consider **Lust4Life** a troll, and I’ve seen interesting content in some of his posts, but I **do** wish that he’d give a little more thought to providing background for his rants, and split his dense text into complete sentences and the occasional paragraph break. Regarding this particular OP, I happen to know what a [REMF](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/REMF) is and what the [Winged Dagger](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special_Air_Service) represents, but the SDMB is not an inherently military-themed board, and is strongly USA-centric. The OP needs to provide some background unless he wants his posts to be read by a very small minority of Dopers. I don’t know what specific event prompted the OP, but I would him to elaborate. There were a lot of “REMFs” overseas, most of whom I experenced were KBR and such–the cooks, laundry guys, transportation & utility workers, etc. They knew enough not to claim they were RED HORSE or anything else they ought not to be. They’re just there doing their day-to-day jobs. That being said, there are just some things you have to have done: you need civilians to cook the food and do the laundry so the gunslingers can go outside the wire. You need that SPC finance clerk to batch daily statements so you can go draw your $200/month limit in cash. You need that AAFES manager to stock the shelves so you can have your damn Oreo cookies and pack ‘o’ smokes on your off time. Bottom line: not all REMFs are “combat dodging” lilly-livered, yellow-bellied pantywaists, but are in fact just hardworking folks doing a job that needs to be done. That being said, there may be a ‘poser’ or two out there, but they usually end up with either A) vocal deirision, or B) the business end of a “sock party”. Tripler Yes, if you want your fuckin’ Friday night steak and shrimp, you do need an REMF. ---

Hmmm. I didn’t see **REMF** in the list of anacronyms. Could someone clarify? Also, do I want to know what a “sock party” is, or will I be happier ignorant? Having been raised by a retired career military father and one enlistment mother, the idea of someone wearing an insignia that they did not earn raises my hackles. ---

Apologies for running on and on!its some sort of compulsion! Ref the pit,still quite new ,still learning,the funeral was for an old mate, military ,combat soldier in a British elite special forces unit who was entitled to wear the “winged dagger” badge .Support personell are needed by all units but I knew these R.E.MF.s for many years and they are blowhards claiming credit for a combat reputation that is not theirs and wearing a badge that is not theirs.I painted my yellow stripes at specific individuals not S.P. generally. As to Monstros difficulty in understanding long words ,sorry me old mate not my problem,I can abridge but I cant increase your vocab and ignorance isn`t a virtue. 🙂 ---

I’d like to know who JH is. A quick google search reveals at least one US Army Intelligence badge with a winged dagger as well as a US Air Force unit with a winged dagger. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are quite a few military units with winged daggers in them. Okay, on preview I see the OP is back, he is talking about the British SAS and knows for a fact, there were people wearing a badge they never earned. That’s pretty tacky. But **Lust4Life** , your typing is atrocious, your spelling is atrocious, and your grammar is atrocious. Don’t blame others for not being able to sort out what the fuck it was that was spewing out of your brain but not making it onto the page. BTW, I thought REMF was US military slang. One target 4. One assailant 5. Alcoholic beverages of choice (optional) 6. Criminal charges of “assault and battery” (optional) Preparation: Assailant drops bar of soap into sock, and wraps sock once around hand. Execution: Assailant liberally (and forcefully) applies soap/sock combination to target to taste, usually on sensitive areas. Depending on intent, and factor of alcoholic beverage consumption, criminal charges may follow. If it’s just two drunken yahoos swinging at each other for fun, it’s usually just broken up by the cops. Uh, there are no ‘front lines’ in Iraq, and a good number of American casualties have been drivers and technicians. Same with Afghanistan. When you’re fighting terrorists and insurgents, there aren’t a lot of safe jobs when you’re in the country. Driving a military supply truck around Iraq is not a safe job. And a number of those guys have acquitted themselves very well when their convoys were hit and disabled and they had to fight it out with the Iraqis. For example, the first Silver Star awarded to a woman in combat wince WWII went to Sgt. The think is, **Sam** , physical risk is just a part of it, and not the biggest part. _Anyone_ can get killed by a terrorist - you can die just by going to the mall. This about the rest. Compare to other servicemen, combat troops carry ungodly weights for ungodly distances; They have to go thruogh six months of intense training before they’re considered “soldiers”; they push their bodies to their limits and beyond; they go on 4-day ambushes; they do endless, grinding sentry duty at all hours of the day and night; not to mention patrols, fighting heat and sleep, alternately; they have to stay constantly alert and careful to a degree beyong anyone else in the military; they sleep less, and when they do, odds are it’s in a crappy tent instead of a nice airconditioned room; they go out on leave less often; they interact less with members of the opposite sex, which means they get laid less often. And the only think they get in return is a feeling of pride in their own achievements… and the chance to act proud in front of others. _I may be eating more shit than you, but at least I’m the better man - and everyone knows it._ Do you see why someone pretending to be one of them is so infuriating? ---

**Lust4Life** , you may have a point in your OP, but it’s well-nigh fucking incomprehensible. However, in general, your posts are incoherent, often inappropriate, and occasionally [needlessly insulting](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?p=7890367#post7890367). While I’m on the subject, what’s with a) the backwards apostropes, and b) putting the space _before_ the punctuation, not after it? If you peruse the other posts on this board, perhaps a newspaper, perchance a magazine, or even, if you can stretch your reading comprehension that far, _Peter and Jane_ and the _Bob The Builder Annual 2005_, you’ll see repeated examples of the correct usage. When you compare what you write to any of the media I’ve mentioned, does your excruciating prose style not leap out at you as it does to the rest of us? I wonder also, does your ire indicate you are ex-SAS, or are you actually a REMF yourself? I really, really hope you’re not Andy McNab in his spare time, because you’re going to drive your editor to an early grave. I also hope not, because so far on this board you’ve been an embarrassment to our nation. ---
