Wow guys !Ijoined this message board because I considered the posters to be more intelligent and wittier then the common folk,and was I right .I am genuinlly impressed you had me good and proper ,I must have seemed like a clumsy great bear thats fallen into a pit and is being baited by the people above . I am particulary impressed by \*\*montys \*\*“well I`m waiting for an answer” **glees** comments and the pompous “you’re an embarassment to the nation”.I was well caught out !Bless you all ,you’ve restored my estimation of these boards.I have only the same alibi as I gave earlier my wits and acumen dulled by lack of sleep.Is my face red !and I sooooooo regret my last posts. ---

Selection involves carrying out a series of individual navigation marches carrying progressively heavier weights over progressively longer distances in shorter times and with less and less sleep over mountainous/marshy country in a mountain range called the Brecon Beacons ,after that there is a "combat survival "phase followed by a"resistance to interrogation" phase . There are many other things involved which Iwont go into in detail but includes a "Jungle training" section. If you dont already have your "jump wings" there is a basic Military Parachuting course at No1 P.T.S. Lust4Life: Actually, I had a very good career in the US military. I am currently retired from the very fine institution of the US Navy. What I glean from your posts is that you’re either stoned, drunk, or completely out of touch with reality. There’s already far more evidence than needed to show you’re out of touch with English. ---

The USMC have a good reason to make the claim, at least as compared to other US armed forces. It’s ingrained as part of the USMC training. Take it up with them if you like; it doesn’t seem appropriate for GQ, but if you wanted to start a GD thread I’m sure that you’d get responses from the USMC Dopers. If you want to debunk miltary slogans as “myths” then why not go straight for the motto of the OP’s [Special Air Service](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special_Air_Service): **“Who Dares Wins”**. Clearly, people who make daring choices don’t always win, and sometimetimes people win while taking the safest course possible. You going to call that motto a myth, too, **Monty**? ---

Why should I? The bit about the rifleman, though, is demonstrably false. The USMC actually has an MOS for that and not everyone in the Corps qualifies for it. There are, after all, quite a few MOS in the Corps. The bit about daring is obviously a slogan. The bit about the rifleman, people actually believe although it’s false. I see a decided difference between the two. ---

Though to be fair I’ve met so many people claiming to be in ,have been in or who have a close relation/friend whos in U.K. S.Forces. that skepticism is the healthy option when it comes to claims of ex or current membership . The S.A.S. is the largest regiment in the world with at least 20,000 members judging by the number of people who tell me about their service in it though it takes a matter of seconds to show them up as blowhards. ---
