I just placed a reasonably large electronic parts order with DigiKey. Everything has gone up in price, and there are shortages of ceramic MLCCs. All the parts from China now say “Tariff Applied.” Thanks for the tax increase, Dickhead Donald! ---

Now that [China](https://www.cnbc.com/2018/08/08/china-announces-25percent-tariffs-on-16-billion-worth-of-us-goods-including.html), [the EU](https://www.bbc.com/news/business-44567636), and [Canada](https://globalnews.ca/news/4304743/canada-retaliatory-tariffs-final-list-trump-steel-tariffs/) have all imposed retaliatory tariffs on US goods, soon you may not be able to afford to buy food, either. #MAGA ---

These tariffs are middle class tax hikes of course. If they all go through, the Trump tax hikes will exceed that of the tax increases for Obamacare. I suspect you jest but this is actually the point; the impact of these tariffs is going to be felt by the people least able to bear them, i.e. those whose livelihoods and material needs are dependent upon cheap imported goods. A marginal tax increase isn’t going to substantially hurt middle and upper class people to a point that they will do more about how their $1000 iPhone Xs now costs $1150, but for someone living paycheck to paycheck, or who is dependent upon materials and goods coming from overseas, this can be financially devastating. If the Chinese were to allow their currency to float freely then the tariffs would not be needed. I think such an action would produce major shocks in the Chinese economy. ---
