For cripes sake people, aruvqan came in here to complain and blow off steam from the stress of caring for a parent with Alzheimers. Some of you gave some suggestions on how to deal with the issue and some of you tried to comfort her. Good for all of you. Some of you chide her, or give her unwanted lessons in football and the realities of TV programming. To all of you - WTF? Either help her or commiserate with her, but don’t try to make her feel like an idiot. Try to understand what this is about or stay the hell out of it. :mad: ---

But that’s false. There are plenty of people who don’t like the current method of not scheduling enough time for the game. Some of them are sports fans, some aren’t. Even among the sports fans, some would prefer that the networks have a realistic schedule. ---

Average time is 2:51, and they point out how Yankee games, and especially Yankee/Red Sox games take longer because of the number of pitches taken. As a Yankee fan, I will admit my view of baseball times is skewed. While I can’t find official stats from the NFL, other sites have said that televised football games run about 3:06, about 15 minutes longer than the average baseball game. Note that nationally televised baseball games take longer than the average as they have longer commercial breaks, and just about every football game is network broadcast. Of note, while looking for the average football time, I saw mentions that average play time (when ball is in play) in a football game is between 11 and 15 minutes. ---

Note that college football games take an extra hour because… well, who knows? Partly because the clock stops on first downs. ---
