Fun Activities for One, Lasting an Hour or Two

– Surf the web. Look up a random word at http://www.google.com and see where it takes you.

– Write a story. If you don’t have ideas for your own, write a fan fiction, or re-write a movie to give it a better ending.

– Buy a disposable camera and spend an hour or two taking pictures around your neighborhood.

– Invent your own alphabet, or come up with a cool new “font” you can write yourself.

– Learn to knit (or crochet, or cross-stitch).

– See if there’s a book of historical or scenic walks for your area. Take one.

– Visit a local historical sight you’ve never gotten around to seeing (or haven’t been to in a while).

And my favorite has already been mentioned – Sing!

3 … It takes 3 licks.

In my spare time I try to learn to do all the things I’ve always wanted to do just lacked the money, discipline, time…
Paint, buy some cheap paints and dabble
Write poetry
Sew, take something old and make it new
Look at a tree in your yard and try to see how many different colors of green there are
Stargaze

The dirt doesn’t even have to be outside. Houseplants can be fun, and you can grow nice ones with things from a trip to the supermarket - citrus fruits, fresh ginger, black pepper, poppy seeds, … (Some spices might be irradiated to kill bugs. That kills the seeds too. :frowning: Try a natural-food store if supermarket spices don’t work.)

Tie knots. No, not macrame, but traditional sailor’s rope-work.

Do a crossword. Make one! (Cryptics are best!)
