I’m a rank amatuer with music however, have always loved funky/funk music sounds and recently decided to check it out in more depth (instead of just hearing it and saying oh, I like that and doing little else).
I’ve discovered Sharon Jones and the Dap kings and whilst I really like their sound, can people give me band names that play funky music but a more modern sound, maybe stronger bass sounds?

Does it gots ta be modern? Check out George Clinton (Parliament/Funkadelic/PFunk). Or James Brown.

Early Red Hot Chilli Peppers had a very funky ethos - in particular, they were produced by George Clinton on ‘Freaky Styley’.

Thanks guys…yes, I think I prefer the modern sound but I’ll check it out.
