The Ritz Brothers were in a film called “The Goldwyn Follies”. You should be able to find it on video, or on AMC.

I’ve seen some VERY funny movies in this thread. But there’s one that can top them all, and it isn’t mentioned yet:

BRAIN DEAD

## Sort of a slapstick-horror crossover by Kiwi director Peter Jackson - also directed Heavenly Creatures. Brilliant ! Anyone seen Brain Dead too ?

I, too, like My Favorite Year (stands up to multiple viewings)

Also: Martin Scorcese’s AFTER HOURS

Laurel and Hardy, especially the one where they’re moving the piano up the long stairs.

W.C. Fields’ THE BANK DICK and IT’S A GIFT

G.I. JANE with Dummy Moore (unintentionally hilarious!)

Most of the films that I’d nominate have been mentioned except for **one glaring ommision:**

-National Lampoon’s Family Vacation.

“You got Asteroids?”
“Naw, but my dad does. Sometimes its so bad he can’t even sit on the toilet.”

And I think that “Easy Money” gets an honorable mention.

daniel p b:

The stateroom scene was in A NIGHT AT THE OPERA, not MONKEY BUSINESS.

However, I’d probably choose any Paramount Mark Bros. movie over any MGM one.

Although OPERA has possibly my favorite scene…after Harpo and Chico and Allan Jones have smuggled themselves into the country, they’re hiding out in Groucho’s hotel suite. A detective named Henderson chases them from room to room…Harpo and Chico not only elude the detective, but MOVE ALL OF THE FURNITURE from one of the rooms to the other!

HENDERSON: Am I CRAZY, or are there FOUR CHAIRS in here?!?
OTIS B. DRIFTWOOD (Groucho): Which question did you want me to answer first, Henderson?

So there’s really no-one who’ll second me on Brain Dead ? Even to just admit you saw it ? Why does the name Guanolad spring to mind 😉

(Expl. Because it’s a Kiwi film, that’s why…)

Oooh, oooh! I just caught a hilarious movie this weekend on the Independant Filmmakers Channel. The movie title is _Dead Alive_. Envision _Night of the Living Dead_ and _Chucky_ mixed with classic deadpan humor, a quick but not so subtle _Holy Grail_ reference, and copious amounts of fake blood (300 liters in the last scene alone).

It starts slowly, but once mommie returns from the dead, the action and laughs really kick in. I want to own this film!

Jeez…I’m glad somebody mentioned Brooks’ “Robin HOOD MIT”. I thought I was the only person the planet who thought that was hilarious. I’ve seen it about 12 times and every time Mel introduces himself as Rabbi Tuchmann I spit Diet Coke all over the screen. Luved the little guillotine.

It’s no “History of the World Part I” or “Young Fronkensteen” to be sure, but it’s approximately a zillion times funnier than his “Dracula”.

Sat in on a class that an old professor of mine arranged with Norman Mailer one time. Bunch of female undergrads googlying all over him (they read the books but I don’t think they entirely understood them.)

Sez I: “It’s good to be da king.”

Mailer got it…nobody else did. 🙂

Doctor Jackson, we showed DEAD-ALIVE at Orycon at 2am. The room was filled 20 minutes into the movie. I kept telling them,“No. Wait. This isn’t even the gory part yet!” I just looove that lawnmower scene, don’t you?

Yankee Blue – I too have heard lots of claims for the Ritz Bros, but the only film clip I’ve seen was pretty tame (it was from one of those compilation films, like “Broadway Antics of 1938” or whatever.)

I’ve never seen any Ritz Bros available anywhere else… my mother-in-law swears they were funnier than Marx Bros.

Eut !!

Thank you ! I KNEW something was wrong here. Must have been some copyright thing or something… anyway, people, my funniest movie is “Brain Dead”, renamed in the US to “Dead Alive”.

I actually got suspicious when somebody mentioned the lawnmower scene…

Glad we cleared that one up…

“Stand back boy ! This calls for divine intervention ! I kick _arse_ for the Lord !”

- The priest, fighting off the zombies at the cemetary with Christian Karate

“Your mother ate my dog !”
“Errrrr… well not all of it…”

- The girl and Lionell, after Mom ate the German shepherd and is lying on the bedroom floor with just the dog’s tail hangin out of her mouth

## Ooooooooooooooooooh what a brilliant movie, I’m gonna rent it AGAIN this weekend 🙂
