Batman, Robin and their lady friend being menaced by a giant clam.

It actually eats Robin, whereupn Batman goes nuts and simply pulls apart the metal chains he’s bound with, yanks open the clam’s mouth and rescues him. For years I thought I had dreamed this and it never actually happened on the show. Then I saw it on Youtube and was shocked to find it was exactly as I remembered my “dream”.

You thought only Liberace was acting strange? 🙂

> The Lord Fogg episode where the office of Ireland Yard’s inspector is an obvious redress of Commissioner Gordon’s office. “Yes, after awhile all of these law enforcement offices look the same.”
>
> Batman spelling out his name over the phone. “B-A-T-M-A-N.”

> The Catwoman has Batman and Robin tied up in a giant frying pan where the sun’s rays will soon burn them to a crisp.

My favorite thing from the Lord Fogg episode was the old fashioned Batphone.

In an episode where the female villain captures Batgirl the male sidekick asks “What are we going to do with her.” “Put her in the machine and roll her flat” Male sidekick eyes Batgirl and mutters “What a shame.”

> Nitpick: Not the pilot. That was the 1966 theatrical movie. It was shot between the first and second season of the TV series. Although I understand the movie did serve to introduce the series overseas.

Oh, thanks. I had just assumed it was the pilot because of its length.

For some reason, the Catwoman episode where she steals 2 Stradivarius violins has several of my favorite ever scenes.

> [@Batman and Robin](#):
>
> Bruce Wayne: Oh, better put five cents in the meter.
> Dick Grayson: No policeman is going to give the Batmobile a ticket!
> Bruce Wayne: No matter, Robin - this money goes to our building better roads. We all must do our part. Good citizenship, you know.
> Dick Grayson: Holy taxation! You’re right again, Batman.

> [@Batman and Robin](#):

> Dick Grayson: You can’t get away from Batman that easy!
> Bruce Wayne: Easily.
> Dick Grayson: [nods] Easily.
> Bruce Wayne: Good grammar is essential, Robin.
> Dick Grayson: Thank you, Batman.
> Bruce Wayne: You’re welcome. Now, let’s get them!

and finally, as Catwoman is trapped up high, with her two violins:
Catwoman: What should I do with the Stradivarii?

I still cannot understand why 20th Century Fox, Greenway Productions and Time/Warner can’t work out their differences and release that show on DVD. You’d think there would be enough money for all of them!

I’d pay $100 for a box set.

From the movie, when they’re trying to deduce what’s happening based on a something with a shark that was pulling Batman’s leg (so it must be the Joker) and an umbrella was involved somehow (Penguin) and (my favorite part) Robin said, “It happened at sea.” (Everyone looks at him blankly.) “C for Catwoman!” (The hilarious part is that he was _right_.)

The episode where Bruce and Dick are on a camping trip and don’t (at first) see the Bat Signal or answer the Bat Phone. Commissioner Gordon says to Chief O’Hara, “You know what this means, don’t you? The day we hoped would never come. We’re going to have to solve this case…_ourselves_.”

> …an umbrella was involved somehow (Penguin)…

Nah, that would make legitimate sense. Umbrellas _are_ Pengie’s trademark, after all.

No, they figured out Penguin was involved because Batman said it was fishy.

The whole thing is a classic case of Insane Troll Logic.

Here’s the whole exchange:

>
> Commissioner Gordon: It could be any one of them… But which one? Which ones?
> Batman: Pretty _fishy_ what happened to me on that ladder…
> Commissioner Gordon: You mean where there’s a fish there could be a Penguin?
> Robin: But wait! It happened at sea… Sea. C for Catwoman!
> Batman: Yet, an exploding shark _was_ pulling my leg…
> Commissioner Gordon: The Joker!
> Chief O’Hara: All adds up to a sinister riddle… Riddle-R. Riddler!
> Commissioner Gordon: A thought strikes me… So dreadful I scarcely dare give it utterance…
> Batman: The four of them… Their forces combined…
> Robin: Holy nightmare!

> Well, remember that the mayor of Gotham was Mayor Linseed (the real mayor of NYC at the time was John Lindsay) and the governor of the state was Gov. Stonefeller (the real NY state guv at the time was Nelson Rockefeller).

Another parallel:
New York City is in the state of New York, license plates embossed with “NEW YORK”. If Gotham City is New York City, then
Gotham City is in the state of Gotham, and the Batmobile’s license plate was embossed with “GOTHAM”.

I own a “United Underworld” coffee mug.

“Today Gotham City, Tomorrow The World!” was their motto, with a octopus grasping the Globe as a symbol.

I recall some villain and his henchmen were in the models’ dressing room at some fashion show, and one of the henchmen said something like, “Batman and Robin are outside! Let’s scram boss!”

The villain sneered back, “Don’t worry. They won’t dare to enter this hallowed hall of feminine privacy.”

Cut to outside. Robin said, “What’ll we do Batman? We can’t enter that hallowed hall of feminine privacy!”

I don’t remember the villain except that he was male, and I’m paraphrasing the words, but it was purple prose indeed.

> In the pilot, Batman and Robin make it back to the U. N. to rehydrate the world leaders who instantly pop back into place and resume their arguing exactly where they had left off. As they debate and yell at each other, Robin something to the effect “Maybe we should leave them to their good work” and starts to walk out the door. Batman, being wiser, says, “Let’s not be so conspicuous.” And then they walk over to the window where they climb out with their bat ropes.
