That’s it. MONDEGREEN NOTE: When I first heard this I thought the back-up singers were saying, “Shadrack he back to Mexico!”

I knew of someone who had a pot bellied pig name Hamlet, they _said_ it was after the character.

I rescued a puppy from being python food and named him Monty.

I’ve know a lot of boxers named Tyson.

Several dogs named DOG, pronounced Diogi.

My parents tell me that I got my first dog when I accompanied my dad to the garbage dump at the age of three. Someone had abandoned this sorry little puppy there. According to my dad, I ran to the puppy, picked her up, and gave her a name by calling her what she was: “Shabby”. Great name for a dog from the dump. She was a great dog, too.

The Torqueling’s school has kids and parents sign up to help take care of the classroom animals during summer and winter breaks. Haven’t got him yet, but we’ve been signing up to keep a hedgehog named “Hokey Pokey”.

Just like the dogs, probably half the PBPs I’ve known (a small but nonzero sample) are named “Hamlet.”

They’re rather lazy critters and the best name I ever heard for one was “speedbump”. He liked to nap in their driveway where the sun warmed the concrete.

Cat #1 is Booger, having morphed from a given name of Boomer.

Cat #2 is Ralph, because as a kitten she threw up constantly.

Cat #3 is Beep, because she beeps instead of meows.

The dogs have more normal names. However, both are elderly and will soon depart the earth. The planned name for the next dog to come along is Critter.

ETA: we used to have a psychotic French Bulldog with a long name of Madmoiselle Brie, on the theory Frenchies fart a lot and Brie is a smelly French cheese. Her daily name however, was Maddy.

Not really pets, more livestock: Alpacas named Scarf and Sweater, 'cause of their fur used in knitting.

Dog named Mouse (small with big ears).

Cat named Penguin (for humiliation).

Cat named Doc (because he always had his little black bag with him, you could see it as he walked away).

I had a friend who got a little fluffy puppy that he named Gideon.

His older brother got a basset hound that he named Goondorf.

Hank Ketcham, original cartoonist of Dennis The Menace, ran a story arc back in the early 1970s or so, in which Dennis adopts a stray cat and names it Hotdog. The gist of the story arc is that none of the people Dennis interacts with can accept that a cat can be named Hotdog, and Dennis has to argue with everybody that one _can_ name a cat Hotdog, because, well, he did it, didn’t he?

There was a video going around last year, of a news anchorman losing it laughing about a pet pig named Chris P. Bacon.

We once house sat whee the resident dog made friends with a neighborhood stray, who was not allowed in the house, so we named the stray Spot, in order to say “Out, damned Spot!”

My current rabbit came from the Humane Society in Florida; they named him Flip-flop and I liked it so I kept it. He does flip. And flop, come to think of it.

Rabbit #2 (1991-2002), was named (not by me) Eveready, after the Energizer Bunny.

Racing greyhounds have the best weird names in the world, possibly next to racehorses. I’ve only been to the tracks one day but still remember one of the dogs on the program: Wiki Little Qwiki

My girl was officially named Get Ready Capi, nobody knows if that’s correct or if the moron who registered her misspelled “Capri” but they called her Capri in the kennel. It fit her so I kept it… along with nicknames like Pupcake, Sugar Cookie and Gorilla My Dreams (I’m not smitten, why do you ask?)

My boy was officially named JJ Mix it Up so we promptly named him something better. He’s a big boy and my husband wanted to name him after a Greek Hero. Achilles is kind of overdone so we named him Ajax. I affectionately call him Jaxxypants.

Our cat was called Ms. Marple by her original owner. We’re not Agatha Christie fans and the name didn’t suit the cat at all, so we changed it. She’s a sugar cookie in a cat suit so we renamed her Sweetie Pie.

> My wife and I, on a long bus trip somewhere in South America, decided that Olive and Violet were both very nice names. But the letter Q is sadly underutilized in English. So we would replace the O with a Q in each name, making them Qlive and Viqlet. Pronounced Clive and Viclet. She then decided that when we have a pair of baby goats on our farm, they will be named Qlive and Viqlet. Which never came to fruition, but the names are on hold, if ever needed.

Ah, I thought you were male.

And I have a dog named Trooper, after the cop that stopped us on the way to get her.

When we first got a dog, my sister, who was four, was heart-set on a collie. We, however, did not have the room for a collie, so we got a Westie instead. My sister insisted on naming her Lassie. :smack: (I always felt stupid telling people my dog’s name and having to explain that no, she wasn’t a collie and no, I didn’t name her. She was a really cool dog, though)

She named it Barf.
