We named a kitten Punkin because he had this habit of jumping up on kaylasmom’s chair right before she was about to sit down. The first idea was to call him “Squashie,” but I decided to give him more specificity.

Not nearly as clever as some, but my cats have been named from Welsh and Irish folklore: Merlyn, Púca (an Irish shapeshifting spirit that frequently takes the form of a cat with dark fur, so yes, he was a black cat), and Sidhe (Irish Gaelic for “fairy” because she is small and sweet, and yes, it’s also a pun).
