My old earth-science teacher used to make up scenarios to put on our tests. One of his characters was Mrs. Crotch Greedy. He swore that that was meant to sound like crotchety… ---

Actually, here in Texas, Ima Hogg was very well known- she was the daughter of Texas governor Jim Hogg, and she was a much beloved philanthropist. All over the state, you’ll find museums, hospitals, concert halls, etc. named after Ima Hogg. Many Texans believe she had a sister named Ura, but no… Ura Hogg was an urban legend. Ima, however, was very real. And despite her odd name, she had a very full life. From what I’ve read, “Ima” was the name of the heroine in a book or poem Governor Hogg’s wife liked. Apparently, it never dawned on either of them until afterward how awful the name would sound. ---

My aunt works in Children’s Services for a county here on Long Island. She’s encountered a “Velvet Couch” (not TOO bad, as bad names go) and an… “Aqua-Net”. Yes, Aqua-Net. Unless she’s a very good liar, she’s not shitting me. Sad thing is, I could see it happening. ---
