Wait, mode is feminine… hmm.

No, no matter how you twist it, it’s utterly meaningless.

_Comme ça_: Like that
_du_: of the
_mode_: fashion

As you mentioned, mode is feminine, so _du_ should be _de la_, but even then, it makes no sense.

“Like that of the fashion”?

Or perhaps:

“Like that some fashion”?

I vote for random string of French words.

I lived in Tokyo in the mid-80s for a while, and back then (and possibly still today) the motor-scooter was the choice mode of transportation. There were scooters with all kinds of funny/cool names.

I recall a little tiny, rather boxy one called the **Gorilla**. There was a HUGE one called the Honda **Fusion** , and my dad had a mid-sized one called a Honda **Tact**. There was one called the **Beluga** as well.

And yeah, I remember my friends putting Creap in their coffee.

They were a US brand (they also had a couple of kinds of alcohol that they sold under the “Death” brand), made with EU (Eww? Anyone?) tobacco. Don’t know if it’s still around or not, but they weren’t anything special, really. Not nearly as good as Silk Cuts.

I love Hello Boss, but my favorite canned coffee from Taiwan is the similar **Mr. Brown.** I have bought cases of the stuff from asian food stores.

But now that I think of it, it doesn’t sound like a very good name for a coffee, either…

Japan is a positive gold mine of weird names!

My best chocolate was one called “Nuts On Parade”. Even my Japanese husband got that one. The manufacturers maybe did, too, as they were soon not to be seen any more.

The other day I went to buy some gardening gloves, and just HAD to buy the leather ones called “Pork Joy.”

There is also a product designed to keep deer away from your garden. The front of the container shows a buck and a doe in bed together. The name of the product is **Not Tonight Deer**.

Some of my friends went to Italy one summer, where I believe “bimbo” means baby. Of course, there it is pronounced “beembo”. My friend saw the sign and proclaimed “Bimbo?”, of course saying it “bihmbo”. The Italians all busted up and asked him to pronounce it again. Yup, “bihmbo” sounds hilariously stupid to your average Italian. Like that song “Apples and Bananas” apparently.

My pick, Nasalcrom, an allergy pill. Not because it’s intrinsically funny, in fact it sounds rather stupid. It’s just that when the guy in the commercial first announced the name, he said it like this:

“Now there is a new pill to alleviate your allergy symptoms. **Nasalcrom**. That’s right, **Nasalcrom**.”

Like it was the best product name ever though of in the history of product names. Now how much do you think they spent coming up with it?

… well, if you ask nicely I’ll send you some in a baggie–for free! 😉

I found the following US products funny enough to photograph in the supermarket:

\*\*Chicken of the Sea

Ben Gay\*\*

Here in Australia, we have matches called **Dickheads** , a take on Redheads.

I just saw this morning on some huntin’ show:

**Tink 69 Doe & Buck lure**

(In our parts Tink is a Penile Member, as little kids “Tinkle” in the potty")

Tink’s 69!!! All I can say to that is
:o =
