There is the village of Bath, Ontario, which, along the main road, has its very own Bath Water Filtration Plant. And don’t forget Avenue Road in Toronto. ---

A sign on a Charlotte freeway about 20 years ago was so bad that they had to change the names of a couple of streets. Out-of-towners were actually pulling over and stopping to try to figure out where exactly they were going. It had every point on the compass in it. The sign said **Hwy 16 South Northwest Freeway East** 😃 Charlotte has always had weird streets. Another famous sign there that my then wife and I ran into when we got lost was a street sign that indicated that we were at the intersection of Queens Rd and, um, Queens Rd. We looked at each other with a “what now?” expression, and started laughing because we had been winding around those spiderweb streets for quite some time already. (It turned out that Queens Rd was laid out like a figure 8 with other streets feeding off of it. Obviously, we had arrived at the center of the 8.) ---

In Baton Rouge there is the Louisiana School for the Deaf. One night I was driving past it and the sign was announcing the upcoming “MISS LSD PAGEANT”. I wish I’d taken a photo of it. Here in town there’s a DIY car wash with a sign that says, “NO! LOUD MUSIC PLEASE” ---

On US 31 between Kokomo & Indianapolis there is a gas station/cafe with an “Eat Here & Get Gas” sign. My favorite “alert” sign – (temp sign by road that flashes a series of messages) seen Oct 2001 – “Exit 102 Open” “God Bless America” ---

Nightsong, I went to college in western NC, so I remember seeing signs for the Bat Cave, too. I was also very fond of a pair of signs at an exit on I-40 that said, —“North Carolina School for the Deaf ----Division of Prison Facilities” Now I live just a few miles from the intersection of First Street and Fourth Street. I love this town. 🙂 ---

This isn’t a road sign but in a liquer store I frequent on the door is a sign that says, “NO ONE UNDER 21 ALLOWED IN STORE. INCLUDING CHILDREN!!!” ---

I used to live near the “Fort Lewis/No. Fort Lewis” sign. We called it Schrodinger’s Fort: its existence was indeterminate until someone actually took the exit. And now I live a few miles away from Bat Cave, NC. Some people get all the luck, huh? I used to work for a farmwoman in mid-NC. One day, she came home laughing hysterically. Out in rural NC, she’d passed a store that sold ice cream and videos; it was called “Licks n Flicks.” The store was part of a strip mall called “Cum Park Plaza.” I’ve never heard better. Daniel ---

On highway 17 south, going towards Savannah from Charleston, there is a sign that points out the exit to Switzerland. I never realized we were that close! I recall driving back from NYC a few years ago seeing a sign that said “I-95 South - Miami” somewhere near DC, I believe. It made it sound like it was just an exit or two away. ---

I’ve seen a picture of a park sign that says ‘Satan’s Kingdom’ There was also some peciliar intersections out there, the funniest probably being dickpinch and balnab, but the intersection of church and state is good for a chuckle. ---

This is a case of bad translation, but I saw a few when on vacation in China that read: “Please no trampling the lush grasslands” (a ‘keep off the grass’ sign I presume) “Treasures, no scribbling” (a ‘no grafitti’ sign) “No drunken rowdy or throwing of sundries” (a warning sign on a cable car across a gorge) ---

One more…this was funny as hell to us as Americans… In Bath, England we saw an advertisement on some construction scaffolding that said “Bath Erections” and a phone number. We all had a “huh huh…huh huh…” Beavis 'n Butthead moment with that one. ---

OK, kiddies - long ago, companies engaged in putting up buildings **WERE** known as ‘Erection’ companies. Used to be a bunch of trucks running around town with the name ‘Underground Erection Company’ (then they chickened out, and changed it to ‘Construction’. Wimps! ---

Construction on the interstate in Oklahoma has resulted in a reduced speed limit of 42 MPH. I can only imagine how that occurred: Plant manager at highway sign factory: “Joe, we need you to make the 40 mile an hour signs today, and Earl, you go ahead and make 40 too.” ---

My roommate sees [Gallows Road](http://www.geocities.com/beegirl169/gallows.jpg) on the way to Florida whenever she goes back home. It is somewhere near the Beltway, I think.
