Fussy, illogical food distinctions you make...

I like bananas. I like banana bread. But anything else with bananas in or on - ick ick ick!! Only distantly related is anything “banana” flavored - viler than vile!!!

I like ketchup and tomato-based sauces, but I hate raw or cooked tomatoes.

I like apples and apple juice, but never got into applesauce.

I despise raw tomatoes (I can’t think of any way to ruin a good sandwich or burger easier than putting a tomato slice on it), but I love pico de gallo, which is essentially diced, raw tomatoes, with onion and cilantro. I think I like it because the onions and cilantro, which I love, overwhelm the disgustingness of the tomatoes.

I hate pretty much all fish (save for shellfish), but I love a tuna fish sandwich. I don’t know why. Oh, but it has to be a cold tuna fish sandwich… I don’t like tuna melts or any hot tuna. The band is okay, though.

NOT fussy, NOT illogical, NOT weird. Completely sane, smart and anyone who doesn’t agree needs to be locked up.

Okay, it’s my topic so I get to say: You are, so far, the hands-down, way-out-in-front, no-one-else-is-even-close Fussy Illogical Eater, especially because you are so extreme about it.

I love cherry flavoring. I will not eat actual cherries.

I’m just the opposite. I like banana flavoring, but real bananas are disgusting. :stuck_out_tongue:

Seconding the “love cooked tomatoes but hate raw ones”. Salsa, ketchup, pizza/pasta sauce are great, but I specify “no tomatoes” on sandwiches, salads, and everything else.

I’m a pescatarian, but, God, help me…it takes every fibre of my being to turn down goose liver pate…in fact…I’m not always able ! (…hangs head in shame…!) What is my problem!?

I hate bread-and-butter sweet pickles but I love pickle relish. Probably because the pickles don’t taste good alone, but the relish makes a great contrast to the saltiness of a hot dog.

Oh, and anything banana-flavored tastes gross (only if it’s artificial). I like real bananas, as well as products containing them (banana bread, banana chips).

strike that. reverse it.

Following what was said above…

I love cherry flavoring, strawberry flavoring and grape flavoring but not the actual fruits.

I also love raisins straight out of the bag or box, but not in cereal, muffins, cookies, etc.

See, this isn’t illogical at all. They’re two completely different sauces, with two completely different flavors. I’d be pissed too if I got one sauce when I asked for a different one.

I hate mayonnaise- to the point that I will gag even if just a tiny bit touches my food or utensils (so no scraping it off things for me!) cannot stand it at all…but I love cole slaw.

I also hate sour cream the same way that I hate mayonnaise. If food comes with sour cream on top, I cannot just scrape it off and eat the rest because it has all been contaminated with yukky sour cream yukkiness…but I love the onion dip that is just sour cream with onion soup mix mixed in…love it! And I love this artichoke dip recipe that I make sometimes that calls for one cup (!) of sour cream AND one cup of mayonnaise. It is the food of the gods. But if I get a bit of mayo or sour cream on my finger and absentmindedly lick it off…yuk, yuk, ptouey…instant retching.

Another fresh tomato hater here. Love tinned tomatoes, juice, sauces, soups and so on; hate fresh.

Ditto strawberries. Won’t touch fresh ones, but as jams, sauces or whatever, they’re fine.

Oranges are a strange case in that I do like fresh oranges, but only as juice. Loathe the texture when eating segments.

Meat with bones is a no-go.

I like ice cream. I like apple pie. I don’t like the two together (or for that matter, ice cream with any type of pie or cake - no Artic roll for me, thanks). The combination of textures doesn’t sit well with me.

I hate jacket potatoes, mashed ptatoes, new potatoes, roast potatoes that are not almost burnt but I do like heavily cooked potatoes, chipped potatoes or a completely raw potato. The intermediate cooking just makes it horrible.

I really, really dislike swiss cheese. Yet I make a really nice quiche with shredded swiss in it. My husband and I devour this. (More often lately it’s been with shredded gruyere, but I’ll still use swiss if I can’t find the other.)

there are some certifiable nutjobs here… foodwise anyway.

Oh honey, you have no idea!I could fill a whole page with my illogical food distinctions but I figured my cheese issue would have the most impact. How about butter? I love biscuits, buttered popcorn, and baked potatoes with butter provided it’s all smooshed up, but I will not eat actual butter on anything else. Butter on toast? Out of the question. Butter on pancakes will get the top pancake flung, Frisbee like, across the room (just kidding; but I definitely won’t eat it).

Not to post anything constructive, but I just had to let you see the two ads at the bottom of the screen as I read this thread.
