The SDMB moderation has problems because…well, humans…err…etc. My experience is hardly exhaustive but I’ve never found a place with better moderation and I’ve been a moderator. Moderating is hard when you’ve got a lot of opinionated smug bastards for members (I know because I am one). I’m not sure what the OP is trying to accomplish. He’s already made his opinion known re: moderation and the mods (apparently) disagree. I guess he could be a Joan of Arc and lead a bunch of members to likewise cancel their membership in an attempt to force change. Short of that it just feels like another attempt to “win” the argument. The only effect is to increase the likelihood (by a very small amount) that the SDMB gets shut down due to falling revenue. Since the OP is sticking around I assume he’d prefer that not happen. Why can’t people just say “I disagree with the mods on this point” and move on? Why take it personally? ---

The moderation standards here have always been pedestrian. Racism and sexism, just show them up more obviously. ---

Hot Fish! No, wait … Tuna Salad!! Ah, hell, somebody beat me to it anyway! :mad: But anyway, we all have our crosses to bear. My hot button isn’t racism or sexism so much as just mindless idiocy, usually from here-today gone-tomorrow types but while they’re around there’s not really much to be done. As the saying goes, out there in the Real World, it’s not illegal to be an idiot or an asshole. I’m slightly aware of the history but not really sure what remedy the OP would consider appropriate that wouldn’t also deter serious conversations on real issues like race and religion. But maybe I’m not understanding the complaint. ---
