Dammit… you got me all excited that there was going to be a new movie. I don’t like comics and can never bring myself to read them (I’ve tried–they just don’t hold my attention.) ---

Uh. Did you guys look at who’s writing? Scott Lobdell. I haven’t hung out in racmx for a looong time, but I remember the Lobdell-fests that went on in there. Usually on the “omfg HIM again? Boo!” I’ll reserve judgement though, and have a look when it comes out. 🙂 ---

I’m not even supposed to be here. I’m just “Crewman Number Six.” I’m expendable! I’m the guy in the episode who dies to prove how serious the situation is. I’ve gotta get outta here! We love this movie. We saw it when it first came out in the theater, and have seen it several times since then, the best time being at a World Con science fiction convention. To know that EVERYBODY in the room gets EVERYTHING made every second even more funny, just a wonderful shared experience. I’m disappointed that the OP is not about a movie sequel or at least a TV show. Personally, I don’t care about comic books and have no interest in reading a GQ comic series. I want live-action, dammit! Oh well, I’ll always have the movie. ---

I don’t see how they could possibly top the movie. I mean, it was so damn spot-on. I’d be terrified of a sequel because, really, what could they possibly do that would equal, let alone top, the first one? I’m not a comic reader, but it does seem an appropriate sort of format to try, and I think it would work a lot better there than in another movie or (Og forbid) a series. ---

On the other hand, he was a stand-up comedian before he was a comic writer…so…who knows. ---

[/QUOTE] If I were doing a sequel to the movie, I think I might take a hint from the upcoming J.J. Abrams _Star Trek_: a new series is being made, a “prequel” showing the characters in their youth. The older actors (from the original _Galaxy Quest_) could bitch and moan about the dreadful casting of the prequel (and it would be truly, comically dreadful – someone like Miley Cyrus playing Sigourney Weaver’s character, or Simon Pegg impersonating Alan Rickman). ---

There is a _lot_ of complaining happening about the Trek prequel, though. I’m pretty sure a parody of it would either not work because what it’s making fun of is too awful to respect that much (and Galaxy Quest was obviously made by people who respected and knew and loved what they were making fun of, which is one of the reasons it works so well) or not sell because the hardcore Trekkies hated the idea of the prequel so much that they’re not even willing to make fun of it. (There is the possibility that the prequel will, surprisingly, kick ass. I dunno. In that case, they’d have a better shot.) ---

Apparently some of us have acquired the power of memorizing a line from a movie and typing it. This is a great day. _Galaxy Quest_ is such a self-contained story, and ends so triumphantly (and promptly, before you can ask a lot of questions) that I can see a sequel being a good idea. ---

[/QUOTE] Galaxy is one of the best Star Trek movies ever made, IMHO. I feel like they made their point and said what needed to be said in that movie; I don’t think there’s a need for a sequel (to make a loose analogy, the subsequent Austin Powers movies didn’t bring anything to the table that wasn’t already there in the first film). ---

And sequels have to come from _somewhere_ , yes? This is good news, and I hope this comic spawns that sequel. “I know that sound…that’s a _bad_ sound!” ---
