I watch the old _ **Super Dave Osborne Show** _ on Adult Swim most mornings. Gallagher was in one episode last week, swinging the Sledge-O-Matic at the end. ---

The bit I remember from him was about trucks. "It’s coming right for you, and what does it say right in the middle of the front grill? “Dodge”. Good advice, there. But then they went and got it wrong on the side. What does it say there? “Ram”. ---

I voted for him in the 2003 CA gubernatorial recall. Said vote was in no way an endorsement of his politics - I simply found the entire recall process to be a joke and decided therefore to vote for a joke candidate, and I narrowly went with him over Larry Flynt. ---

I enjoyed some of his early stuff with language jokes especially. His routine about how good and food etc., should sound the same was a family favorite. He was at the Fresno fair one year and since admission was part of the cost of the fair, we decided to attend the show. I grabbed a beer and headed for the entrance gate. It was so crowded and people started shoving from the back when they heard the show starting that I was being crushed, My beer was crushed between my hands and I was pissed about that, but I was getting genuinely concerned about myself just as the way ahead cleared enough for me to get out of the crowd. The show wasn’t really funny after all that. He smashed melons and the folks in the front row with raincoats loved that part. Yesterday on Facebook, in honor of Kherson, I posted something about it being a good day to enjoy watermelon and all the responses I got were in memory of Gallagher. I didn’t know he’d died or I might have been a little more clear. RIP Mr. Gallagher. ---

Yeah, his “daughter”-“laughter” part of (I assume) that joke is the one I remember Gallagher most for, beyond his watermelon schtick. I won tickets to see him back in 1992 from a radio contest, but didn’t end up going. (I did partake of the free pizza I won in addition.) ---

I just learned in this thread that he wrote so many familiar jokes. I first saw him on the Tonight Show ( it may have been his first appearance). I remember his rant about stupid motorists. He griped about one he saw driving down the highway with a seatbelt hanging out the door. “Makin’ sparks!” He suggested replacing the existing system for traffic infractions: give everyone a dart gun with (suction cup) darts. When you see someone do something stupid, you shoot them with a dart. When they accumulate three darts on their car, the cops pull them over and write them a ticket. ---

he was funny but his last few specials were just more of the same …one joke of his was " I walked up to an airline counter with two boxes and said send one to Detroit and the other to Miami and they said " sir I’m sorry we can’t do that, I asked why not? they had no problem doing that last week when I was in Dallas " He came to town a few times and most of his routine was based on how crappy our area was which 80 percent of the audience agreed with when he did the sledge o Matic bit he did make a few jokes about infomercials stealing his act since it was a parody of them in the first place of them like the now old one where they lit the car on fire to prove the wax stuff they were selling was fireproof ---
