What did you or anyone in California expect when all it takes is $3500 and 65 signatures to get on the ballot?
All the loonies are going to come out.

Which is exactly why this is so depressing. It’s embarrassing in the extreme that those loonies are confirming the rest of the country’s image of California.

You know, I saw Gallagher perform something like 20 years ago and someone in the audience shouted out, “Gallagher for President!” Gallagher replied he’d never go into politics because of the things you had to do, which is why Reagan had the same thing on his nose, that he had up his ass. (This was when Reagan had had a couple of tumours removed from his nose and colon.)

Actually the thing I remember Gallagher saying, with a proud look on his face, was, “I can’t be president. I smoke _dope_! I write it off on my taxes… I put it down under … transportation…”

Has any one seen his [platform?](http://gallaghersmash.com/html/platforms.htm) here are just some of them:
1. …Because California’s roadways are the arteries of the economy, utilize Military style heavy-lift helicopters to clear accident vehicles immediately.
2. …Because you act the way you dress and wearing pants too low allows the pooper part to show, expand the indecent exposure statute to include this stupid trend.
3. …Because the state is 50% Latino, mandate the singing of a Spanish version of the Star Spangled Banner at 50% of all state sporting events.
I’m glad there are at least a few people making it the joke that it really is.

So should we get a Doper to run? Any California Dopers want their name on the ballot? It should be easy to get the signatures and we could start up a collection fund. What’s the deadline?

I heard on the radio that one rich guy is offering to pay anyone’s filing fee. All the other person needs to do is collect the signatures and do the filing. The money can be had. If only I could remmeber who is giving out the money and why.

At least two people have been trying to sell their votes on eBay. One was pulled but one’s [currently active](http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2944771268&category=1469).

I love it. He’s no less qualified than Coleman or Schwarzenegger as far as I can tell, and if you laugh at Gallagher - unlike the other two - it’s because he’s trying to be funny.
