When Cat made that deal they made it look like she gave up a ton just for using a bridge, but what she really got out of the deal was getting the Freys to join an underdog rebellion lead by a teenager against the most powerful house in the realm, and all the old guy wanted in return was some respect and the chance for his grandson to be a King. For someone who was known as “the late Walder Frey” because he only picked a side when the fight was done this is a huge fucking deal and Robb not only shit all over it but he also mismanaged the rebellion to a point that it made no sense to keep supporting him. Their actions might have been horrible but their reasoning is solid.

The highborn simply did not marry for love in those days (well, whatever days). I cant’t think of a single marriage that wasn’t arranged…Cersei to Robert, Cat to Eddard, Edmure to Rosalyn, Tyrion to Sansa, Joffrey to Margery, Cersei again to Loras, Dany to Drago. Maybe Lysa to Arryn, although we don’t have much backstory there.

Didn’t Cat and Robb have an argument in S2 about legitimizing Jon and making him Robbs heir? Did Robb follow through?

Well, Jon Arryn was like 40 years older than her. I think we can infer it was arranged.

Considering the age difference, seems unlikely.

That would be almost impossible for two reasons: he’s illegitimate and he’s on the Night’s Watch (which is like being in the Mafia- you don’t leave). Plus he has two younger brothers who are presumed dead but it’s not known for sure.
Robert was in love with Ned’s sister, but it’s implied that even that was arranged. (And if they had married he probably still would have ultimately shagged every other woman in King’s Landing- he was just given to excess and Lyanna dying allowed her to remain the pure love of his life.)

The surprising thing is that Littlefinger, Edmure, Tyrion (not counting his brief marital misadventure) and all those Frey girls wouldn’t already have been married or at least betrothed.

By definition he would have to be illegitimate to be legitimized. The Night’s Watch thing would probably nix the deal though.

On rewatch Walder Frey claiming he would’ve broken 50 oaths to get inside Talisa takes on a whole new meaning.

</div>

Frey’s contempt was really well done. He basically tells Robb that he didn’t break his oath for love, he broke it for a hot piece of ass, which makes it an extra slap in the face to Frey, since a king can get a hot piece of ass anytime he wants, whether he’s married to it or not. He’s had so many wives whose only purpose was to pump out more Freys, he can’t fathom truly loving a woman. They mean very little to him.

Yes, he had good reasons to act this way. All he needs now is a good bath with Brienne and he will be again a loveable character.

It puts him in a very precarious situation: imagine having to explain to King Pinchyhead that there was a wedding his grandfather helped plan where a pregnant woman was knifed to death and two women had their throats cut but he didn’t get an invitation.

Any idea how much of on-screen throat slashing is CGI v. how much is fake blood/prosthetic throat/tubing?

Really? I actually found it hysterical. Just something about people overreacting to an admittedly dramatic tv show while you hear all the screaming and sword chopping in the background. I only wish they had recorded a couple of black audience reactions like the sort who tweeted “FUCK. GAME OF THRONES. FUCK THE BITCHASS N\*\*\*A THAT WROTE THE BOOK. FUCK THE STUPID ASS ACTORS THAT ACT THAT SHIT!!”
