Now I wonder: When Dany comes to Westeros with her dragons, will Bran be able to control them?

So my side-topic question, given the central focus of the Red Wedding: are we supposed to know why Jon Snow popped up after getting attacked by the Warg-bird, jumped on a horse and rode off, leaving Ygritte?

I assumed he was riding to warn the Night’s Watch…

I thought it was because he saw Bran and Rickon’s direwolves and knew they were the ones up in the tower that Orell heard, so he rode off hoping to get the others to follow him so they wouldn’t be found.

Assuming he would be able to recognize those two direwolves.

He was a spy, even if he liked Igrytte he was only there to stop the wildlings not to actually join them. He told eagle guy he was right about him the whole time, hell he wasn’t even subtle about it most of the time. Murdering some old guy in cold blood probably didn’t help either.

When she told the Hound that one day she was going to stick a sword in his eye and have it come out the back of his skull? CHILLS. I have no doubt that she is going to be a badass, and that she is going to take out quite a few Very Bad People on the way, but that poor girl has seen a lot of death and loss in the past three seasons. I honestly hope that someone in this world invents therapy soon.

Or is it because Stannis Baratheon wanted him dead? I guess we’ll have to keep our eye on the usurpers Joffrey and Balon Greyjoy to find out for sure.

Yeah, you just know that red bitch is going to take credit for this, completely disregarding that it’s a war and people have been trying to kill Robb since it began.

I’ve been carefully waited to read each book until it’s season is over, but as soon as the cute “I can’t plan my war with your butt all nekkid, wife! I really love you!” scene happened a few weeks ago my husband and I both thought Robb was gonna buy it. Had no idea half the north would go with him though, dayum.

> It appears that Robb was killed because Tywin Lannister wanted him dead. Bolton & Frey wanted Lannister gold–& to be on the winning side. The broken betrothal provided Frey’s excuse. But I wonder whether treacherously breaking the bond of hospitality is a worse crime. (Bread & salt are meaningful in several Earth cultures.)

It’s like other Westerosi “laws” like kingslaying, kinslaying and oathbraking. There’s no actual “punishment” for it. It’s just sort of frowned apon.

This, plus going to warn the Night’s Watch, plus not getting cut in half by Mance Rayder and his men. Plus I at this point, I think he’s probably like “we should see other people”.

Not really - it was a matter of getting into the city so they could tell the slaves there’s a giant freed-slave army outside, and they’re welcome to join if they just lay down their arms. Jorah said something to the effect of, “You were right - they all just gave up once we told them.”

There’s a punishment if you’re in front of an authority figure who decides to punish you. Like Stannis cutting Davos’s fingers for smuggling.

It seems that the capture of Jaime and Brienne leads to his maiming and eventually to his rescue of Brienne, which lead to his character’s growth and is thus a major (I assume) plot point, but can someone explain how it makes sense in terms of Bolton’s character?

I’m guessing there were a lot of forces loyal to Robb who were still looking for Jaime. Better to capture him, then deliver him to King’s Landing, than just assuming he’d make it back there on his own.

On a technical note, I don’t think it was the Wildling Warg anymore. It was the Wildling himself. He transferred himself into the bird right before he died. So he’s a bird for the forseeable future, because he has nothing to come back to.

Trying to explain is tricky, but if he did it for the slight I don’t see the Lannisters being especially beholden to his deed (not that they don’t appreciate the outcome it just seems to me that they are “above” that sort of thing they are old money with standards albeit they don’t follow them they just pay the lip service.. I know confusing lol) or if he did it at the request of the Lannisters which would seem less petty but still..
>
> I did hear Roose say about the Lannisters so I know what he was doing it for… prick 😛

I was wondering about that. I don’t think that’s exactly the message Jaime was meaning for Roose to deliver. I think the Lannisters will be glad of the outcome of Rob not being able to cause trouble for them, but I would think anyone would be very tentative in entering any alliances with the Freys now, considering any slight could have huge consequences.

I was wondering about him and about the groom. He seemed so happy being carried out, as did the women carrying him out. Either that happiness was short-lived, or maybe he escaped because the gods smile on fools like the Blackfish said.

Yeah, I wonder if Ygritte hadn’t killed the guy if Jon would have grabbed her and had her join him.

> That’s an actual crime though.

There’s really no difference. If Joffrey decides to have your tongue cut out for singing an insulting song, then that is an “actual crime.” If there was someone with the ability and the inclination to punish Walder Frey for his breach of the laws of hospitality, then that by itself would make it an actual crime.

The issue us that (1) there might not be anyone with sufficient strength and authority to punish the Freys for that crime and (2) even if there were such a person, he might not be inclined to do so.

This is pretty realistic in terms if development of law in our own history. The king was the law and whatever he or his representative decided was an “actual crime” when someone was brought before him was all that there was.

“The Late” Walder Frey is a calculating bastard and his first priority is the security of his own position. He wouldn’t have done this unless he was sure that he was going to end up in exactly the position he wanted. He forsnt take chances.

So there’s no way he’s going ahead with it if there’s a chance that the. Lannisters are going to cut him off. Even if he really wanted his revenge against Robb, he would have waited for the best strategic moment from his own point of view.

Yeah, there is no reason Jamie could possibly know about anything that happened, his regards sounded more like a “haha i got away” than anything.
