The other day I watched a couple of episodes of GOT for the first time. I had no idea what was going on, since apparently this show has been running for a few years, and it has _very_ long story arcs, but I was pretty impressed. I liked it a lot.

And I was very pleasantly surprised to see one of my favorite actresses, Sibel Kekilli, in what I think is a pretty prominent role. She’s the girlfriend (“mistress” might be a better word) of the character played by Peter Dinklage (Tyrion?).

I have a vague memory of posting about her a few years ago in a thread about beautiful but unknown (to Americans) actresses. She’s still astoundingly beautiful. Looks like she’s had a nose job, though, and I can’t figure out why she would do that. She had an incredibly beautiful face (still does, but not quite the _same_ face).

No, it’s Joffrey in all sources.

Pretty sure it’s not the book readers that are spelling it Geoffrey.

I was also under the impression that Shadowbaby was made from, ahem, other bodily fluids from Stannis in S2. But maybe Shadowbabies made from that method don’t have enough range or something.

Milesandre said that Stannis was no longer powerful enough to make another shadowbaby.

Really they have to be careful with the whole magic blood shit. Otherwise it will turn into a giant deux ex vaginia.

Joffrey was being his usual charming self, Tyrion threatened him, Joffrey blustered, Tywin said something to calm the situation and Joffrey said, “While [so-and-so] was killing the king, you were hiding under Casterly Rock.” Immediately after this, he went silent. I think after this, Tywin sent him to bed with a warm glass of milk (or essence of nightshade).

It was especially funny because Joffrey is railing about how his father was out conqueroring (sp?) and everyone at that table knows that Robert wasn’t his actual father.

Also, the one time I felt bad for Joffrey was when he talks to his father on his deathbed. Joffrey looked devastated.

I think “concubine” is more apt given the power & status differential between them. Even though they technically mean the same thing “mistress” makes it sound like he has her set up in a house somewhere when she’s literally working as a maid.

Not to mention that Robert _became king_ by leading a successful rebellion \*against a king \*who took his subjects’ obedience for granted and also though everyone was his to torment. Clearly modern history wasn’t Joffrey’s best subject.

Good episode, all in all. I liked Roose’s and Walder’s chat in the great hall of the Twins as the blood was mopped up, and Tyrion’s and Tywin’s chilly discussion about duty to family. I’m digging the dynamic between the Hound and Arya; he’s only mildly annoyed that she took his knife and didn’t tell him what she had in mind with the four Frey mooks; he really seems to admire her for her guts. Good to have the Bolton bastard finally identified. A very nice scene with Varys urging Shae to leave, too.

A whole 'nother season behind us, though, and still no big, LOTR-scale, army-against-army battle scene. You’d think they could afford the CGI for what’s supposed to be a continent-wide _war_, after all.

Personally, I don’t particularly mind the lack of Giant Setpiece Battles. Character development, plotting, and even individual fights that I can actually follow the action in are more interesting to me. But that aside, I think the war is in a bit of a “sitzkrieg” phase right now anyway; there are no giant battles on screen because there are no giant battles taking place in Westeros.

**Jojen Reed** : Sorry, we’re headed to the place we’ve been plodding towards all through Season 3, an actual plotline in Season 4.

and…

**Gendry** : Um, I’m a virgin, who just a season ago, was being sent to a celibate order of guards and then Red comes at me totally NSFW. Any man with a penis would be helpless to resist.

Need to watch again, but: what’s the “shift” part? Guess I missed it.

Who are Eldrick Sarsfield and Desmond Crakehall? Googling doesn’t really help. Mostly just foreign subtitles files for this episode.

I think the “shift” was Sansa being too much of a lady to say “shit”, but that exchange was a bit hard to decipher.

I don’t think those two names are anyone we’ve met – they’re just names Sansa dropped.

What about last seasons Battle of the Blackwater?

But other than that I agree with you. Each season feels like a buildup to a Battle of the Pelennor Fields that never happens.

I’ve read all of the ‘things that will not be mentioned’. But I’ll be damned if I remember much of anything about the series beyond the show timeline. Most of my mental space is reserved for my coursework, and I remember SFA (sweet fuck all) beyond the current TV series. It’s kind of thrilling to have that memory block, and to be a reader and watcher at the same time. I’m lovin’ it.

\*and there really is no spoiler here. I couldn’t tell you Davos’ disposition if my life depended on it. Too long, too many courses, and too many beers ago…
