Just saw the Denzel Washington/Ryan Reynolds spy thriller _Safe House_, which is pretty good; the actor who plays Ser Davos Seaworth on GOT has a small role as a British agent. ---

Braavos has kind of a Venice like feel to me—center of banking and trade, money can buy skilled swordsman and magical assassins, lots of water, one of the “free cities” — makes it sound like the Italian trade-based chain of city-states of the Renaissance ---
