Yes, but Pycelle called him back after Cersei was imprisoned. He was standing next to Pycelle after Cersei finished her walk.

Cersei had Tommen sign a decree re-arming and empowering the Faith Militant, a group that has been inactive/banned for 200+ years. Although yes it’s discussed more at length in the books, they did discuss it on the show - I found this exchange from [5.04 - Sons of the Harpy](http://genius.com/Game-of-thrones-the-sons-of-the-harpy-script-annotated):

> [@](#):
>
> CERSEI: All over Westeros we hear about septs being burned. Silent sisters raped. Bodies of holy men piled in the streets.
>
> HIGH SPARROW: Wars teach people to obey the sword, not the Gods.
>
> CERSEI: Perhaps the Gods need a sword of their own. (HS raises an eyebrow). In the days before the Targaryens, the Faith Militant dispensed the justice of the Seven.
>
> HIGH SPARROW: Well, the Faith Militant was disarmed more than two centuries ago.
>
> CERSEI: If I explain the holy purpose to my son, the king, I have no doubt he will sign a decree arming the believers you felt worthy.
>
> HIGH SPARROW: An army that defends the bodies and souls of the common people.
>
> CERSEI: An army and service to the Gods themselves. And to you, of course. As the chosen representative of the Seven.
>
> HIGH SPARROW: An honor I never expected. Or indeed, ever wished for.
>
> CERSEI: Which is why you were chosen. (HS smiles). You and I both know how the world works. Too often the wicked are the wealthiest, beyond the reach of justice. The king himself cannot always punish those who deserve it most.
>
> HIGH SPARROW: All sinners are equal before the Gods.
>
> CERSEI: (Smiles. Continues after a moment). What would you say if I told you we have a great sinner in our very midst? Shielded by gold and privilege.
>
> HIGH SPARROW: May the Father judge him justly. (Smiles).

Though they aren’t completely explicit in how far their powers reach, it’s pretty well implied that nobody is beyond their authority. As of course Cersei learns to her dismay.

STOP POSTING IN THIS THREAD if you cannot respect the “show only” byline.
No, it’s not an official rule…but, like I also said, I’d think and see anyone who continually posts about book things in a topic that people say “no book things, please” as jerkish.

I am moving the recent book posts in this thread to the book/show thread.

Stop telling others what is and isn’t rules, **DrDeth.**

All others: Please try to keep book talk out of this thread as it’s clearly in the title.

Part of what the show did to try to make the Sparrow takeover believable is to have Cersei send Mace Tyrell, Kevan, and Jaime out of the city for various things, but I’d assumed that some other, unnamed adults had filled their respective positions in their absence. Apparently we’re supposed to believe that no one was driving the ship.

For several seasons, we saw The Faith as The Established Church. It served the rulers.

Little time has been wasted on the People of King’s Landing. We saw a violent crowd, but \*\* the show\*\* spends most of its time on the upper classes.

**DrDeth** I am not sure where you got this idea, but let me be crystal clear:

\*\*The “show discussion” thread should NOT include any reference, comparison, information or in anyway bring up the books. At all. \*\*

There are other threads for discussing the books and book related items.

We have been moving book related posts to the other threads since the posts have appeared to be innocent mistakes but everyone PLEASE follow the rules and leave the books out of it. If you are concerned about a post, report it and do not berate the poster in this thread. \*\*Small, gentle reminders about the rules will be tolerated \*\*from one poster to another, but rudeness and giving other posters a hard time will not.

However if it appears posters are abusing the goodwill of the Cafe Society mods and posting book info to push the line, warnings will be issued for failing to follow moderator instructions.

I really, really hope this clears things up!

Well, Cersei’s plan was to give them enough power to arrest and hold Loras and Margaery. And Margaery is the current actual queen, wife of the king. So for her plan to work it HAD to be the case that they had legitimate power which even very rich and powerful people (such as Olenna) could not easily contravene. Which then makes it plausible that Cersei herself would get caught in the same trap.

Aside from signing the decrees Cersei puts in front of him, Tommen is not the acting king in his own right, as he’s simply not old enough. Margaery is technically the queen-in-waiting, and Cersei is Queen Regent, acting ruler of the Seven Kingdoms until Tommen is of age to rule on his own (at which point Cersei would become Queen Mother again, as she was to Joffrey).

I think this is why Snow had to die. Without him the Wildlings won’t trust or help the Watch and that will allow the Walkers to over take the wall and kill the Watch. Now if Snow is not truly dead then I got nothing.

Didn’t Tommen become King for realsies after he got married and had the sex with Margaery?
I’m thinking that Arya going blind was a lesson from No One that you can’t trust your eyes. And that there’ll be some training while she is blind and then when she’s ready she’ll get her sight back.

Also there better be some Bran and Hodor next season. Is he going to become Old Man in the tree’s replacement or is he just there for training so he can become Super Warg?

You however didn’t move the “RR Martin was shitty when he wrote this scene and I know that he wrote it because I know that the story of other characters is similar in the book and the show” when you moved the “RR Martin never wrote this scene and the stories of other characters are now also completely dissimilar for the most part” answer, for some reason.

I defended the “no mention of the books” rule for _years_ because there were very good reasons for it. Those reasons essentially don’t exist anymore. The show has bypassed the books and it’s now the show content that spoils the books. And, as I just said, the last season departed greatly for them and few main characters are in a similar situations in the book and in the show.

“No mention of the existence of the books” (as opposed to an usual “no spoiler” policy) indeed seems to me at this point an uneeded rule. But if you’re still bent on enforcing it, then maybe you should first remove the posts making statements about the book content before removing the answer to those wrong statements. Even moreso when the post contain a _book spoiler_ “Martin said that Shoreen is going to die too in the book that isn’t yet published”. My post that you moved didn’t contain any spoiler of any sort. It was only refuting this poster point by stating in general terms that the show story arcs and the book story arcs were now very different.
So, either it’s a suggestion or it’s a rule. If the latter, then it should be enforced as it used to be, by removing _all_ mentions of the books. If the former, then there’s no reason to move a post that contains zero spoiler or even specific information about the book content. Again contrarily to the post I was responding to and that you _didn’t_ remove.

Unless the rule is now “people who didn’t read the book can discuss their content, but people who did read them can’t mention them”.

Not yet; I doubt Myrcella’s actually kicked it. Though that’s mostly an issue of “we haven’t seen a body”, it’s not entirely so: given the apparent Dornish fondness for poison, I don’t think it’s at all improbable that someone on board (Bronn, perhaps, if he somehow got a chance) has a couple of antidotes. And even if that doesn’t happen, if Myrcella dies or has already done so, there’s still all of Robert’s bastards- the goldcloaks may have emptied King’s Landing (save Gendry), but I seriously doubt Robert limited himself to one city’s whores. Though they wouldn’t (officially) be Baratheons, admittedly.

No, but managing to mummify someone who’s _encased in ice_ would be pretty darned miraculous.

I don’t think we really know who is is really “in charge” right now, either legally or practically.

The person who is really in charge is the person whose orders would be followed if multiple people were giving contradictory orders.

A few years ago, there was an underage king with a queen regent, but the hand of the king was Tywin Lannister, and he was unquestionably the person who really would have been obeyed if push came to shove.

More recently, things are more murky.

If Sansa is dead, and I make no prediction on that, then it is a victory for Sansa. She went out on her terms and she possibly took an unborn heir with her. Theon’s death would be a mercy for him, but equally damming if he survived and she did not. I think that would send him completely over.

No Sansa and No Heir, dead or alive, means that little finger can justify a causi bellis, and take winterfell, with the knights of the vale.

Ramsay’s position is now in major jeopardy regarding inheritance.

Shireen’s death was not pointless, she advanced Davos as a character and gave him a more human and fatherly role, which he takes into the future.

Or until he gets eaten by a Wildling on his way back or dies of grayscale.

If Myrcella is dead, Doran Martell will probably give her killer (Oberan’s mistress whose name I’ve forgotten) a death that will make Shireen’s look peaceful. He seems a crocodile who can go from mellow to vicious in a second when provoked, and she already had one warning.

Davos might have been made into a stronger character by Shireen but her death doesn’t add to that. In the end her death is just another pandering to a stomach-punch and it gets tiresome. GoT used to be nuanced with interesting story arcs (e.g. who, after Season 1, would ever think that Jaime could become a sympathetic character?) but now it’s just same-old-same-old. Oh look, another character dies a horrible death. This episode ends with the possible death four major characters (five if you include Mycella) and we still have two more seasons to go. Oy vey.

That’s some silly shit, right there.
