I was responding to [post 206](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=19322283&postcount=206), where you listed the rape of Sansa as something that happened, then dog violence as something that didn’t. I was pointing out that both things happened exactly the same way.

As violent as the show is, I think watching flesh getting stripped from bone on a live person + baby would definitely cross the line. Plus it would have to be done in CG, and it would be non-trivial to model.

If the question is why don’t we get a tamer example of, say, a dog biting a person and latching on while blood pours, then the answer is we did, back in season 1, twice.

> I’m guessing it’s pretty hard to train dogs to bite people in convincing, gorey ways without actually training them to be violent killing machines. I guess you can use CGI, but… why is this a problem?

Why is not showing nudity a problem? For the same reasons. I _notice_ that they avoid showing dogs being harmed or harming. I _notice_ when the pack of hounds suddenly dissapears into thin air when Brienne attacks. Again the same thing as Danaerys covering herself with sheet when having sex with Daario. You leave the show to think about the artifices used to film it.
Also, to be frank, because this dog violence censorship grates on my nerves, in the same way, again, you argued about nudity being treated as super special and different from everything else.
While I’m at it, Jon’s loincloth was another example of distracting non-nudity. You couldn’t not notice that.

And on a related topic, as noted above by another poster, the nightwatch being surprised by an army of wildlings led by a giant was ludicrous. Thay aren’t very good at their job, are they? To be frank, for various reasons, I had issues with the the believability of pretty much every single scene of episode 2, and a number of scenes from episodes 1 and 3. It doesn’t seem to me that I had such a hard time maintaining suspension of disbelief during the previous seasons. Is it me, or are the producers becoming more sloppy?

When the dogs were defending respectively Bran and Arya, right? Yeah, no doubt, dogs can be shown doing their heroic duty of guarding faithfully their master against an evil threat. That’s what dogs are expected to do on film. But they can do no wrong. And a good character like Brienne can’t harm a dog, either. Someone already gave a link to the “kick the dog” trope, it’s not like it’s a specificity of “game of thrones”, but in a show that doesn’t shy away from showing all sort of horrific events, it stands out.

With regards to ages…There were specific orders for a regent until Joffrey came of age. Those just got torn up and thrown away.

Apparently with sufficient backing and enough will from the King, age doesn’t matter if the King is around 14-16. Hell they expected Joffrey to lead the GD army at Blackwater Bay.

I’m quite surprised that so many people are offended by Clarke’s non-nudity. Unless she agreed by contract that she would do nude scenes no matter how long the show lasted, she’s well within her rights to stop. I wonder if there is unused footage from the early seasons that they could have used, combining her current face with her body from back then. Also, in fairness, it’s not unbelievable that some women like to stay covered underneath sheets/blankets after sex due to feeling cold, etc… This does happen in real life too.

Personally, I thought it was an excellent way to add color to the exposition scenes, which can be kinda dull.

Except for the scene involving Arya when she was stalking someone on her naughty list and had gone undercover in a brothel to get him. There was a lineup of girls for him to choose from, but they were clearly terrified, because he was a sadist. So maybe the show is correctly portraying the normal feelings of the prostitutes toward someone who merely wants to have sex and a good time vs. a sadist?

It was only Ned Stark’s designation as Regent by Robert that got torn up and thrown away by Cersei. Cersei then had herself designated Queen Regent until Joffrey came of age. (This said, Joffrey is sometimes shown defying her, so it’s not clear how much power she has de facto.)

The show doesn’t depict any King ruling in his own right at a very young age. It is clear that Tommen was older than Joffrey was when he took the throne, since he didn’t have a Regent.

Joffrey was stated in the TV series to be 17 years old at the time of the Battle of the Blackwater, which would make him at least 18 at the time of his marriage.

It would have been if it had been used once. But after half a dozen brothel scenes, it became laughable.

And they could have added colour to those scenes by having them happening in other peculiar settings, giving clues about interesting aspects of the local culture besides life in brothels.

The reason why they picked brothels is blatantly obvious, and it’s not an intent to make us discover Westeros.

I have no idea how this is a response to what I said, which is that the bast majority of viewers will not take much notice of cutting away from Daenerys when she is supposed to be naked. It’s just not a big deal.

Way ahead of you. 😉 See post #271.

Tommen’s age has been retconned since season 1. He’s now around 17 or 18 at least. This is demonstrated by the fact that he doesn’t have a regent. He’s ruling in his own name, so he is legally of age in Westeros.

Do you really think they would have hired a 17 year old actor to play someone who was supposed to be 12.:dubious:

Yes? Older people play younger people routinely because they’ve got better honed acting skills.

I heard something about it makes it legally easier for him to film scenes in bed with Margaery but that seems silly since they’re not even simulating sex.

I think of Tommen as being 14ish.

He’s not. Per Northern Irish law, any _character_ (not just actor) shown having sex must be at least 16 years old.

I would also point out although some characters are portrayed as engaging in sex with underage girls, I don’t believe any have been depicted in bed with them or otherwise implying they are having or have recently had sex with them on screen.

And again, if he’s 14, why doesn’t he have a Regent?
