There’s gotta be _some_ people on the show that take an oath seriously.😉

It also would be a lame plot device for the villain to lose one hostage (Sansa) only to immediately gain another (Rickon). That would just be pointless churning.

Hoping it’s one of Ramsays dogs having just finished their delicious Walda n’ Baby brand dog food and that the Umbers are plotting to get rid of the Boltons, possibly explaining why Smalljon wouldn’t bend the knee to Ramsay. Greatjon’s supposed demise could factor into this, we haven’t heard anything to suggest he was dead.

If anything, Rammsay knows dogs, one look at the head and he knew it was a direwolf, hence Rickon. Now they could have dug up Lady, and Arya’s wolf is mia still.

I liked Olly. He had all the reasons in the world to do what he did, on top of being influenced by the guard’s officers. Remember how nicely his parents were dispatched by the wildlings (eaten by them, even). He fought bravely at Castle Black despite his young age. He took a hard decision wrt Jon. Basically, it seems that many people hated him because he killed a murderous red-haired girl with nice tits.

I’m about as happy about his death as I was about Shireen Baratheon’s death last season.

I hoped to the end that he (or all the convicts) would be spared.

Enter littlefinger…

Rickon is the last blood heir, but the now freed from his oath Jon (insert last name), nee snow, is back in play. Technically to me, Rick would be the spare, as all he has is the name, rather than Jon who has the command of the nights watch and the wildlings.
But yeah, I hope next week is the week we see Ian McShane. Is he a Manderly or what.

Ser Alliser’s bravery and reasoning made it tough to take any satisfaction in his death. Reminded me a bit of the Nazi officer who is killed by the Jew Bear in _Inglorious Basterds_.

I’m on the “Rickon and Osha are working with the Northern lords on a trap” side. I think the Maester is playing both sides, and since Walder Frey has been bound and determined to have a woman of his house made the queen or First Lady of the North and has been shown to get pissy when thwarted in the matter, there may even be a Frey attack from the south.

Hmmm? Seemed obvious to me since she met the Dothrakis last season. Maybe not specifically to Meereen (Tyrion and Varys must serve a purpose), but i’m certain she’ll be ruling the horde soon.

Except that Ser Alliser wasn’t an evil man. He always did his duty and what he thought best.

If I were Cersei, I wouldn’t trust Qyburn too much. I don’t feel this guy can be relied on. I suspect he’s some sort of manipulator like Littlefinger.

With winter well advanced, you might also expect wild dire wolves to start appearing south of the Wall. The Umber’s seat of Last Heath is the farthest north of all, and they might see them first. It may not be one of the Stark wolves at all.

This said, I’ve always wondered how the dire wolves’ mother managed to climb over a 700-foot wall.

Agreed. Daenerys is the queen of making lemons into lemonade. Her political husband was even murdered by the Sons of the Harpy in the very same incident that led her to be captured by the Dothraki. She’ll come out of this better than she went in, no doubt.

> [@clairobscur](#):

> Unless he’s an absolute idiot, he will keep him as an hostage.

As already noted, Ramsey can totally be an idiot. Or perhaps more accurately, he can’t fight his twisted nature for long. He was able to feign courtesy towards Sansa very briefly, but quickly slid back into being sadistic. That’s Ramsey’s major flaw: when he can satisfy a political goal and a sadistic one simultaneously, he does fine, but when he has to choose between politics and sadism, sadism wins. I suspect that he’ll try to do the political smart move with Rickon, but eventually his willpower will give out and he’ll go back to cruelty without regard for the consequences.

Regarding the hanging: I thought there were way more than five conspirators in Jon Snow’s stabbing. I recall a group of around 10 people obscuring the “traitor” sign, even if it was only five that stabbed him.

On that note: why did Jon execute the traitors right before resigning? Did he figure that they were going to get executed one way or another, and thought it best that he handle it himself instead of dropping it in his successor’s lap?

Oh, one other thing I noticed is that they acknowledge a few times, and this episode they got fairly direct with it, that they’re waiting for these charges from the Faith Militant and the coming trial by combat. I’m still not clear what they’re waiting for exactly. This episode they also made mention of the Hound being “left for dead”…surely somebody knows what I’m getting at here 🙂

I’m waiting for Chekhov’s dragons to escape from under the pyramid. Somehow I just know Tyrion’s going to ride one.

The only reason I don’t subscribe to the Jon Snow as bastard Targaryen fan theory is his looks: Targaryens looked like Daenerys and her brother, almost albino. Cersei and Jaime perhaps, but there’s not really anybody around who could speak to their mother’s fidelity, plus they looked like Tywin.

It was a plotpoint that all Barratheons are dark haired. Can’t think of how that would help, though.

I was also surprised that the Frankenguard is now outright called Ser Gregor. Guess they decided to have at least one plot thread that isn’t drug out long after everybody has either figured it out or stopped caring.

Did anybody catch [SNL’s sketch](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vcQdcaYPA0) on Jon’s resurrection this weekend? The main takeaway is that former stick boy Pete Davidson has been working out.

There were six shown stabbing him: the four who were hung plus two more. I count at least 15 in total in the group. Maybe the others were hung before the ringleaders. (However, it’s odd that someone low-ranking like Olly was hung along with the First Ranger, First Steward, and First Builder, unless his role as Jon’s steward made him especially treasonous.)

Nah. I think it would have been considered pretty bad form for Howland Reed to have stabbed the guy in the back by surprise. I could see Howland relating the story as Ned killing the Kingsguard, and Ned probably just refused to ever confirm or deny it, and everybody just took it as “Ned bein’ Ned.”

IIRC, there’s a mountain range next to the Wall to the West – normally impassible by humans (and thus, effectively an extension of the Wall), but perhaps it’s passable by dire wolves.

Of course, the head could also just be from a regular wolf, which are common throughout Westeros.

But those Targaryens are “pure” (i.e. from incest) Targaryens – both parents are Targs. Jon, if the theory is true, is half-Targaryen.
