I just rewatched the preview for next week and noticed something I missed last night.

The woman speaking with Varys is not Mellisandre but another woman wearing the same red dress and necklace. Apparently there are more red witches.

We’ve already met other Red Priests – Thoros of Myr, who resurrected Beric Dondarrion after he was killed by the Hound, and (IIRC) some nameless Red Priests in some of the eastern cities Tyrion passed through.

I noticed that right away.

Tyrion saw another Red Priestess previously in Volantis, though she wasn’t dressed in bright red and was evidently from eastern Essos.

> With all the secrecy around what Tommen told Cersei, I wonder if the High Sparrow lied to Tommen about the walk of shame, knowing it would get back to Cersei. And that it would trigger the nobles to try and act out to stop it? Or perhaps what Tommen told Cersei was completely different from what she told the council, and is part of a bigger plan of hers? It’s really hard to tell. Either way, I don’t see this ending well for the Tyrells.

The High Sparrow should definitely suspect that anything he told Tommen would get to Cersei. So if Cersei knowing what he and Tommen talked about is detrimental to the High Sparrow’s plans, then that’s a poor job on his part.

The North is still a difficult problem. The Umbers appear to have cast their lot with Ramsay. At first, I thought turning over Rickon was some sort of plot, but it doesn’t look like it. The Karstarks are already off team Stark. Ramsay has 5,000 men. Add in the Karstarks, the Manderlys and the Umbers, and that’s a pretty big problem. In fact, in one of the earlier episodes Ramsay seems to convince his father than those three houses and the Boltons are a large enough power bloc to be able to wipe out Castle Black and still hold the entire north against any ensuing rebellion.

Also, Jon’s army is an army of wildlings. Jon has also voided his oath, which normally would be a death sentence. So he’s got some 'splaining to do if he hopes to get anyone to follow him.

But there are some wrinkles. First, Petyr Baelish is coming with an army from house Arryn. That will probably bring house Tully into the fight if necessary. Then there are the iron islanders, who still occupy a few places in the North, and who were brutally betrayed by Ramsay. Wouldn’t it be fun to see Theon Greyjoy leading an army against Ramsey Bolton?

It’s still not clear what Petyr’s game is. Is he hoping to take Winterfell for himself after letting Jon and Ramsay weaken each other? Or is he playing a longer game and honestly throwing in his lot with Sansa and Jon, in hopes of consolidating his rule of the Vale and becoming a larger power broker in the North? I’m not sure what’s going on there. Baelish doesn’t mind doing evil to advance his goals, but he also doesn’t mind doing good. He’s chaotic neutral in many ways.

Then there’s the magic: Bran and the three-eyed Raven would be the best spies for an army in history, if they decide to intervene. There’s also Meeren Reed, and House Reed is still faithful to the Starks. And how about the Lannisters? Where would they land in this fracas? My guess is that Jaime Lannister could easily throw his support behind Jon Snow, given how crazy and dangerous he certainly knows Ramsay to be, and given that he still has a bond with Brienne and agreed to help her protect Sansa.

So there’s still plenty of palace intrigue possible before the war in the north is settled.

I would say that anything he told Tommen was likely to be disinformation that he knew would wind up in Cersei’s ear. So it may well be that he’s trying to provoke exactly this kind of conflict.

Ramsay said that if they won those houses over they could hold the North, not that they had those houses on their side. It looks like he’s been successful with the Karstarks and Umbers, but I don’t think they have the Maderlys yet.

I hope that’s how the show goes, otherwise I think it’s a bit of a plot hole. The High Sparrow has been savvy enough that it’s an oversight for him not to make that play.

What house Tully? Edmure is a prisoner of Walder Frey, who is in charge of the River lands.

The Iron Islanders got ran out of the north already, first by Theon betraying the guys at Moat Cailin then by Yara’s forces being defeated in Deep Wood Motte. If anything kicking the Iron Men from the north helped the Boltons solidify their hold on the other northern houses.

You’ve forgotten the the Blackfish (Brynden, Catelyn’s uncle) escaped from the Red Wedding and could still be a factor. He’s a noted battle commander.

Robin Arryn is also a Tully on his mother’s side and could be used to rally Tully bannermen against the Freys.

Already served!

But yeah. An army of Wildlings isn’t going to generate much support in the North.

But Littlefinger (now technically “Protector of the Vale” until Robyn comes of age) is mobilizing the Knights of the Vale against the Boltons too. So let’s not forget about that.

From what I read online, a bunch of fans are up in arms because GRRM said that Dany’s fireproofing on Drogo’s pure was a one-time thing. Personally I don’t think that’s any more or less stupid than having her permanently fireproof.

We don’t know that, not having seen him or the Freys since the Red Wedding. The Freys have been mentioned in Season 4 as being detested by the people of the Riverlands. They won’t be hard to rally against the Freys.

There’s a few people losing their shit over this since it’s something Word of God has commented on in the past and previously it was very much taken that it was a one-off for the dragon hatching;

> George\_RR\_Martin: Granny, thanks for asking that. It gives me a chance to clear up a common misconception. TARGARYENS ARE NOT IMMUNE TO FIRE! The birth of Dany’s dragons was unique, magical, wonderous, a miracle. She is called The Unburnt because she walked into the flames and lived. But her brother sure as hell wasn’t immune to that molten gold.
> Revanshe So she won’t be able to do it again?
> George\_RR\_Martin: Probably not.

Reason it matters to some fans is [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2TlSM-2SyI) scene, Jon Snow burns his hand when fighting a wight, so people are saying that this is proof positive that R+L=J is not true. Personally I’d fanwank it by saying that Dany is a ‘pure’ Targaryen, that is more inbred than Carlos II, the daughter of Aerys II and his sister/wife Rhaella whereas if R+L=J is true then Jon is a half-breed, which is also why he has Stark black hair rather than platinum (the seed is strong).

So the way i see it the “big secret” that Tomnen was supposed to keep from his mother had nothing to do with Margaeries tit walk, he would be more upset about that than she would. The way Loras has been broken and tortured on the other hand makes me think the big secret was the Tyrell involvement in Joffreys death.

Was Loras privy to that knowledge?

Hmm, so the Faith Militant want the Tyrells to attack? They could place traps in the sept. I guess that is a good PR coup for them. “Look at the royals oppressing the poor!”

As I remember, Dany got Khal Drogo killed when she insisted that his men not rape the women of some village they invaded. He then had to fight another Dothraki who was pissed that he didn’t get to rape the women.

Well by killing (without shedding a single drop of blood) all of their khals Daenerys is now the Khal of _all_ the Dothraki khalasars in her own right. She may also be some kind of god to them. Still I agree that keeping the rape under control is going to be a problem. Even if she feels the same way about the Mistresses of Astapor and Yunkai as she does about the Masters I doubt there are enough to go around.

I think that’s exactly what Cersei’s planning, and that Olenna sees this too. As usual Cersei’s plan isn’t going to work out like she planned it.

AFAIK we’ve never been told that the Starks follow strict male primogeniture, or have we? Or even if they do have male primogentiure, she’s the regent since the oldest surviving male heir is under age or captured. Either way she should have no problem commanding the loyalty of the north under her own banner.

Well there’s still Brann, but depending on how complete his paralysis he might as well be skipped over if he can’t produce an heir. Also at this point I don’t think he has any interest in being Lord of Winterfell.

Personally I’d like to see Sansa as (Acting?) Wardress of the North sentence Ramsey to death, and then honor both their family’s traditions at the same time. 😉 Or have this favourite toy taken away. As for Loras, IIRC it was outright mentioned that the Sparrows consider beggary worthy of death.

He didn’t void his oath; his watch ended when he died. That it sounds utterly insane to anyone who didn’t see it happen is beside the point.

Well Viserys was just as purebred a Targaryen as Daenerys, but he died when Khal Drogo crowned him with molten gold so I don’t think immunity to fire & intense hear is a trait all Targaryens share.

There’s no reason to think he his, and Olenna had no reason to bother telling him.
