> I would put scare quotes around “explained”. There must be something about knives in Braavos, that they only inflict non-fatal abdominal wounds. They inject antibiotics, or something.

Or, as some worthy has explained several times, if you don’t get your intestines cut (which is rare, because the slip out of the way of blades), and don’t get an artery nicked, you die from a abdominal wound from bleeding or later infection.

She is specifically shown getting a very survivable wound. She is pallid when Lady Crane finds her, is rosy in the final scene. Also, Lady Crane was getting another bottle of joy-juice when she died, so it was long enough that Arya used up the first bottle, so I assume it was at least several days.

It’s honestly not the biggest stretch of the imagination to assume she survived it. A stab wound to your abdomen that doesn’t pierce your bowels, or sever an important artery, is a slit in muscle, skin and fat. Of course anyone can die of infection, but TV people are largely immune to that.

I thought cutting the candle was cool. I mean, we got the Waif’s degloved facemeats as fanservice for her comeuppance.

Regarding the fleet of Harpy ships attacking Meereen: surely the resolution needs to be more nuanced that having Drogon napalm them. Dany needs \>1000 ships, and she doesn’t know the Ironborn are coming. Seems like biological warfare, hand-to-hand combat or a cunning plan are on the cards.

Incidentally, isn’t Drogon kind of a childish name for a dragon?
It’s like have a pet turtle called Myrtle or a Cocker Spaniel called Nathaniel.

I was eagerly expecting some dragon ship torching action. But I wonder if we didn’t see it because Dany has a plan: she needs ships, and lookie there, a fleet just sailed into her harbor.

Does anyone think that maybe Arya made a mistake in saving the actresses life? We were supposed to believe that the actress was a good person, and that the younger one who put the hit on her was the bad one.

But what do we know about that actress so far? Well, for one, she liked to stab people. So many people that she had to learn surgical skills to keep them alive after her temper receded. And, on the word of some girl that another actress was out to get her, she apparently slashed up the young actress’s face to permanently disfigure her. So either she was a good person and the writing for her character was iffy, or she was actually the bad one who deserved to die and simply fooled Arya because she’s a good actress.

But anyway, the whole, “I learned to sew people up because I used to stab them so much” excuse is a real Deux ex Machina, because there was no way for Arya to know that when she went to her for help. And if we were supposed to believe that the actress was a good woman saved by Arya, the excuse works against that.

It is convenient, but he’s named for Khal Drogo.

You can’t engage in hand-to-hand combat against ships that are on the ocean flinging flaming balls into your city.

But what you can do is convince the slaves operating those ships to revolt and mutiny against their masters. Ships like that are almost always operated by slaves, because it’s hard, hot, dangerous, miserable work. Even sailors in the old British wooden navy were little better than slaves.

Perhaps a dragon torching a lead command ship or two, coupled with Daeneris flying overhead yelling, “slaves - break your chains and join us - or die in fire” might be enough to cause the entire fleet to be turned over to her.

Seems a bit convenient that Dany was married to Drogo, who dies and then from his death she gets a dragon in which to name Drogon.

The only people who are immune to that on GoT are characters who the plot requires not to die just yet. (So far that group contains exclusively Arya.) Everyone else who receives an abdominal wound is usually dead within minutes, and at most hours.

I came up with a wild theory about that above - the Waif killed Arya - but it’s little more than a joke after all the wild theories last week. I hold out little hope that it’s correct.

It was a plot point that Arya lured the Waif into the dark, so it’s not unreasonable to just go black there. I was less annoyed by that, because the idea that Arya was all along trying to lure her opponent into the dark, albeit incompetently, was the thread that just barely held that fight storyline together.

This made me wonder: How many off-screen deaths or “deaths” of important characters have we had now?

Syrio - in a sword fight with Lannister men
Xaro Xhoan Daxos - locked in a vault by Dany
The Hound (was presumed dead by many, but obviously now still alive)
Stannis - executed off-screen by Brienne
The Blackfish - killed by Lannisters/Freys at Riverrun
The Waif - killed in the dark by Arya

Of these, we can say for sure that Stannis is dead since I can’t imagine Brienne lying about that. And the Waif, since Arya cut her face off. My assumption is that the others are really dead as well, though I know that many keep hoping Syrio will pop up again.

The Waif’s death isn’t shown because, well, it was too dark. 🙂 Plus, it draws out the suspense in the following scene at the temple of the Faceless Men, with Jaqen following the blood trail. Is it Arya? Or the Waif?

The Blackfish’s death probably wasn’t shown for reasons of expediency. He wasn’t a MAJOR character, so no need for a big death scene.

Aren’t galley slaves usually manacled securely in position, precisely because in the heat of battle they might be somewhat disinclined to remain at their posts?

I’m hoping for a plan a little more cunning than a Dany speech telling the slaves to rise up against their masters to win the battle, since she has done this at least 3 times already and it’s getting a little old. Ideally, Tyrion and the writers will redeem themselves with a plan so cunning that it’s worthy of a fox who has just been appointed Professor of Cunning at Oxford University.

It might not be necessary to incite another slave revolt. Just torch a ship, and give the remaining masters the choice of walking back to Volantis or dying in a reptilian fireball, and they might see the error of their ways.

In any case, the fleet is arriving under sail. There are no oars evident, although there are ports that could be used for oars. If they are galleys, the slaves are not rowing them at the moment.

They are presumably being used to carry troops to land and take the city, rather than as a battle fleet. Mereen’s ships have all been burned so they are not expecting to meet any resistance at sea.

Seems likely to me that Yara, Theon and the Iron Fleet will arrive in the nick of time, capture the masters ships, gift them to Dany who then makes another grand speech in Dothraki.

Yes, presumably the Harpy troops would have been landed, leaving a skeleton crew since they have no fear of attack from the sea. So the Harpies on land are dealt with by some combination of the Unsullied, Drogon and Dany’s new Dothraki horde (how close are they, I seem to remember still a week away?). Perhaps also the Ironborn fleet arrives, and they are presumably skilled enough to be able to board skeleton-staffed ships and take them intact.

Is Essos/Westeros society ready for the first high-profile gay wedding between Dany and Yara Greyjoy? It would be worth it if only to see the look on Euron’s face.

Maybe they thought it would be “too gratuitous”, like showing Stannis getting killed or any aftermath of his death whatsoever.
