I think that’s kind of a spoiler though. Gloating about one character being killed would be weird so it would imply more of the character would die.

**Acsenray** , the evidence for the Hound being dead is “some dude said so.” The evidence for him being alive is that characters see a man fitting his description in close proximity to the Hound’s horse.

Good thing no Dothraki were invited, they’d be offended!

The Hound is still about, raping and pillaging the countryside.

Sandor Clegane, on the other hand, is at rest.

Heh. Or sitting on his dad’s lap. The exchanged glances, raised eyebrows, jockeying for advantage and silent physical comedy of that scene were just _great_.

Verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry interesting. Robb’s expression when, or if, he realizes his beloved wife was a turncoat all along is going to be something to see.

I love Brienne - one of my favorite characters. This actress still doesn’t really fit my mental image of her, but she’s doing pretty well. I loved how she was offhandedly but relentlessly forcing Jaime down, near the end of their duel on the bridge in last week’s episode.

Don’t remember any reference in the books to Tarth being the sole Westerosi source of sapphires, though. Is that so?

Can’t wait to see the arrogant slavers of Astapor get their comeuppance.

> Brienne of Tarth - Believed to be alive, searching for Sansa
> Brandon Stark - Alive and with the Last Greenseer
> Osha - Unknown, but last was alive and with Rickon Stark
> Jaime Lannister - One-handed but alive and believed to be with Brienne
> Cersei Lannister - Alive, but found guilty of fornication and essentially powerless
> Tyrion Lannister - Alive in Mereen
> **Shae - KILLED at King’s Landing**
> Jon Snow - Stabbed repeatedly and _possibly dead_
> **Ygritte - KILLED at Castle Black**
> Petyr Baelish (“Littlefinger”) - Alive, in transit from the Eyrie
> Varys - Alive in Kings Landing
> **Sandor Clegane (“the Hound”) - KILLED at the Crossroads**
> Bronn - Alive in Stokeworth

So **Ellis Dee** seems to be mostly right. The “don’t get too attached to a character” idea is pretty overstated by the readers.

There are still two books to go. I expect that list to get a lot shorter.

Jamie tells the same lie in the books. Tarth is called the sapphire isles because it’s waters are so blue, not because they have sapphires.

The descriptions of Brienne and Tyrion in the books emphasize that they are _ugly_. Neither actor could be fairly described as both. In fact, Dinklage is reasonably handsome.

It seems like Ned and Drogo from the first season should count too. And Tywin should definitely be included as a major character. I guess I wouldn’t consider Jeor Mormont a main character, but he’s not insignificant and he goes down this season too.

In Ellis Dee’s defense, he’s right that not too many major characters die in the second season. It’s not that his assessment was wrong based on the show so far, he’s just underestimating where the story goes in later books.

And, I would add, how many do you want? Compared to most fiction, just killing off Ned, Drogo, Robb, Ygritte, Shae, and Tywin is significant.

Even then, look at the list, that’s 1/4th of the named characters considered “untouchable” that get killed by Book 5.

I’m thinking as things come to a climax a lot more will die… because, for one, I can’t really see an ending where Dany and the Lannisters survive together.

One thing I’ve always wondered: Why is it Daenerys and not Dan **aerys**? Considering that the name is probably derived from Aerys, a name shared by many of her relatives.

Either a variant spelling, or some Westerosi linguistic quirk when adapting a male name into a female name, I suppose (like Edward -\> Edwina).

Thanks for that! I guess I did slightly overestimate how many characters were killed off but it’s still more than **Ellis Dee** had been counting on.

Brienne killed the man in the Hound mask.

Sandor Clegane is certainly at peace. For now.

The monk tells us that the Hound died. However, at the monastery, there is a new silent monk who hides his face, is hugely tall and strong, and gets a long well with an unruly large black horse that no one else can ride.

It’s not hard to deduce that Sandor Clegane lives, though he is no longer the man that the Hound once was, and the monk was speaking metaphorically.

When Brienne asks the monk about the Hound he says he is dead. When Brienne asks the monk about Sandor Clegane he says he is at peace. The big silent monk who hides his face also has a noticeable limp, which would match the severe leg injury Sandor had last time we saw him.
