Reminds me of that old SNL sketch with Alec Baldwin (I believe) and Chris Farley as this clueless American tourist on a Japanese game show with all sorts of nasty penalties for answering wrong. By sheer dumb luck he makes it all the way to the bonus round with the electric chair (I think), and tosses out a bunch of random Japanese-sounding syllables for the final question, only to get it wrong by one syllable. 🙂 That said, ouch! ---

Among the older shows, _The Price is Right_ is highly unappealing to me, even tho the contestants aren’t much smarter than lobotomized cows when it comes to winning strategies… ---

Takeshi’s Castle (recut as MXC on Spike TV). The show from the OP was worse than some of their games, but at least it doesn’t stand a good chance of crushing your spine. ---

[/QUOTE] To be fair, if you exclude the game MXC calls Log Drop, the two most serious looking injuries I can think of happened because of contestants showing off - both involving backflips, IIRC. Though yes, it generally DOES look pretty painful. 🙂 ---

If I remember correctly, I don’t think the OP’s link was an actual game show. I think it was a one-time thing for some comedy show or something. That still doesn’t negate how painful it is to watch. ---

The UK show Distraction is pretty bad. One episode I saw featured a round where contestant could only answer a question after peeing into a toilet (males and females - they were in stalls onstage, with just a small privacy door at groin height). In another round, every correct answer resulted in the contestant receiving a piercing. The first person to get five metal spikes in their body won the prize. ---

[/QUOTE] The pee buzzers are nothing - those are the least bad distractions on the show, followed closely by the gross foods and ugly nudists. The piercings, the tattooing, the electrocution, the injur-yourself-to-buzz-in (clothes pegs, mouse traps, large elastic bands stretched to a foot in front of your face), the shooting with shit, paintballs, and rotten eggs…those are the bad ones. ---

My favourite bit of Distraction was when a girl won a car…and then had to answer questions, and for each wrong one, her dad vandalised it. IIRC she ended up with no wing mirrors, and “I ❤ dogging” sprayed across it. ---

Can’t remember the name of it now, but there was a daytime quiz show on the Beeb a few years ago with really hard to answer questions and prizes like a mug, or even _gasp_ a BBC tea towel… The presenter looked mortified ---

[/QUOTE] The worst “hurt yourself to buzz in” that I saw was: contestants were shown their buzzers, which were on a small rotating platform, closely surrounded by several varieties of cactus. The contestants were then blindfolded, the platforms rotated, and the questions started flying. Pretty well no way to buzz without impaling yourself on a cactus. ---

I once saw a Japanese game show on an old episode of _Ripley’s Believe It Or Not_ where contestants had to run through these filthy obstacles, have snakes and scorpions poured all over them, and eat really disgusting foods…only to win a trophy. A big-ass fancy trophy, but just a trophy nonetheless. ---
