I love the monkey’s uncle
And the monkey’s uncle’s ape for me!
He’s free as the breeze
He’s always at ease
He lives in the jungle and hangs by his knees
As he swings through the trees
Without a trapeze in his B.V.D.s
He’s got a union card and he’s practicing hard
To play, the guitar, gonna be a big star
Yeah he’s gonna go far
And carry moonbeams home in a jar
He ordered Chet’s guitar course C.O.D.
Makes A and E and he’s working on B
Digs C&W and R&B and me and the chimpanzees agree
That one day soon he’ll be a celebrity
Get it, get it, get it.
Gitarzan, he’s a gitar man
He’s all you can stand
Give him a hand, gitarzan
Call me the breeze
I keep blowin’ down the road
Well now they call me the breeze
I keep blowin’ down the road
I ain’t got me nobody
I don’t carry me no load
Ain’t no change in the weather
Ain’t no changes in me
Well there ain’t no change in the weather
Ain’t no changes in me
And I ain’t hidin’ from nobody
Nobody’s hidin’ from me
Oh, that’s the way its supposed to be
I wonder if those changes
Have left a scar on you
Like all the burning hoops of fire
That you and I passed through
You’re a bluebird on a telegraph line
I hope you’re happy now
Well with the wind of change coming down your way girl
You’ll make it back somehow
And love lies bleeding in my hands
Oh it’s hell to think of you with another man
I was playing rock-n-roll and you were just a fan
But my guitar couldn’t hold you
So I split the band
Love lies bleeding in my hands
Like a bird on the wire,
Like a drunk in a midnight choir
I have tried in my way to be free.
Like a worm on a hook,
Like a knight from some old fashioned book
I have saved all my ribbons for thee.
If I, if I have been unkind,
I hope that you can just let it go by.
If I, if I have been untrue
I hope you know it was never to you.
I come to you, so silent in the night
So stealthy, so animal quiet
I’ll be your savior, steadfast and true
I’ll come to your emotional rescue
I’ll come to your emotional rescue
Yeah, you should be mine, mine, whew
Yes, you could be mine
Tonight and every night
I will be your knight in shining armor
Coming to your emotional rescue
You will be mine, you will be mine, all mine
You will be mine, you will be mine, all mine
I will be your knight in shining armor
Riding across the desert on a fine Arab charger
After two days in the desert sun
My skin began to turn red
After three days in the desert fun
I was looking at a river bed
And the story it told of a river that flowed
Made me sad to think it was dead
You see I’ve been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert you can remember your name
'Cause there ain’t no one for to give you no pain
I like the way sparkling earrings lay
Against your skin so brown
And I wanna sleep with you in the desert tonight
With a billion stars all around
'Cause I got a peaceful easy feeling
And I know you won’t let me down
'Cause I’m already standing on the ground
'cause it’s oh, so peaceful here
There’s no one bending over my shoulder
Nobody breathing in my ear
Oh, so peaceful here
In the evening shadows are callin’ me and the dew settles in my mind
And I think of friends in the yesterday when my plans were giggled in rhyme
I had a son while on the run and his love brought a tear to my eye
And maybe some day he’ll up and say “We had a pretty nice time”, oh, oh, oh, my
The first thing I remember
I was lying in my bed
I couldn’t have been no more
Than one or two
I remember there’s a radio
Comin’ from the room next door
And my mother laughed
The way some ladies do
When it’s late in the evening
And the music’s seeping through
My train of thought was broken by a sudden burst of laughter
Something badly needed to brighten up the chores
Seemed old Mrs. Bailey had accidentally fell
In the water being used to scrub the floors
Now Mrs. Bailey was the meanest matron at the home
She believed in lots of work with little play
And we laughed till we bent double
Though we knew we’d get in trouble
But trouble’s all we had at evening shade
Now evening shade was where they claim to teach you understanding
To teach you love and keep you off the streets
And all the kids that live here are said to be a problem
Juvenile delinquents so to speak
Won’t you come home Bill Bailey
Won’t you come home
She moans the whole day long
I’ll do the cookin darlin I’ll pay the rent
I know I’ve done you wrong
‘Member that rainy eve’ that I threw you out
With nothin but a fine tooth comb
I know I’m to blame well ain’t that a shame
Bill Bailey wont you please come home
One early winter’s morn
When the ground was white with snow,
Bill Bailey went back to his love he had nowhere else to go,
To escape that cold, so he walked up bold;
She was glad to have him there, he was glad to be there too,
So she went next door to a lady friend and she said: “'Tis cert’nly true,
I ain’t got no blues but I’ve got good news.”
She went down to the bank
And drew out ev’ry cent
She even paid the landlord in advance a whole year’s rent,
Just to let Bill see, that her money was free;
She bought him ham and eggs and a suit of clothes as well,
She gave them to Bill Bailey, now that darkey’s living swell,
then she advertised, “don’t you be surprised.”
“Bill Bailey come home dis mornin’ soon,
I’m gwine to love him till I die,
Makes no diff’rence to me how Bailey carries on,
Ev’rything he wants I’m gwine to buy,
I’ll never drive him away from my door,
I’ll watch him so no more from me he’ll roam,
I ain’t got time to stay,
I’ll do no work this day,
'cause I’m happy since Bill Bailey came back home.”
Some people stay far away from the door
If there’s a chance of it opening up
They hear a voice in the hall outside
And hope that it just passes by
Some people live with the fear of a touch
And the anger of having been a fool
They will not listen to anyone
So nobody tells them a lie
I know you’re only protecting yourself
I know you’re thinking of somebody else
Someone who hurt you
But I’m not above
Making up for the love
You’ve been denying you could ever feel
I’m not above doing anything
To restore your faith if I can
Some people see through the eyes of the old
Before they ever get a look at the young
I’m only willing to hear you cry
Because I am an innocent man
I am an innocent man
Cold, no I cant believe your heart is cold
Maybe slow to warm from a long, lonely night
But just let someone start believing in you,
let him hold out his hand
Let him touch you and watch what happens
One someone who can look in your eyes,
and see into your heart
Let him find you and watch what happens
One of these nights
One of these crazy old nights
stealin’ down an alley on a cold dark night
i see a halo in the rain 'round a street light
i stop and look and listen to the sound
as the raindrops penetrate the silence all around
alone, i gaze into the glistening street
the distant thunder
echoing my heartbeat
urging me on to a secret goal
away from the light from this lamp on a pole
so i turn
slip away into the rain
drifting like a spirit through the shadows in the lane
clutching the tools of my trade in my hand
an old box of matches and a gasoline can
After the fire,
The fire still burns–
The heart grows older but never ever learns,
The memories smolder, and the soul always yearns,
After the fire, the fire still burns
Sun lights up the day time
Moon lights up the night
I light up when you call my name
And you know I’m gonna treat you right
You give me fever, when you kiss me
Fever when you hold me tight
Fever in the mornin’
A fever all through the night
All along it was a fever
A cold sweat hot-headed believer
I threw my hands in the air, said, “Show me something,”
He said, “If you dare, come a little closer.”
Round and around and around and around we go
Oh now, tell me now, tell me now, tell me now you know.
Not really sure how to feel about it.
Something in the way you move
Makes me feel like I can’t live without you.
It takes me all the way.
I want you to stay
It’s not much of a life you’re living
It’s not just something you take–it’s given
Round and around and around and around we go
Oh now, tell me now, tell me now, tell me now you know.
