Not so (in the version I saw anyway) since every move of the two moving player must be legal chess move. Thus the King cannot checkmate on its own (the first move to adjacent to the enimy king being illegally puting yourself into check is thus not allowed). And two rooks are sufficient for the single moving player to checkmate the king via the usual method. I haven’t played it anywhere near enough times to know if one side has a clear advantage, nor am I good enough to prove such an advantage exists. None the less the games I have played this way seemed to offer no overwhelming advantage to one side.
