There’s a kid at the local middle school who’s probably feeling very vindicated right now.
Let me explain. At one of the schools I substitute at, I noticed in the work posted on the hallway bulletin boards that the French teacher had the students create family trees. “This is my father, his name is ____, he is ____ years old, he is <adjective> and <adjective>”, that sort of thing (all in French, of course). Predictably, all of the family trees were populated entirely by movie stars or characters. Well, one of the kids had a family tree with a grandmother and grandfather on one side, like normal, and Gandalf and Dumbledore as two grandfathers on the other side (IIRC, Marilyn Monroe served as a birth mother for them).
And no, that wasn’t even the only same-sex parentage listed on the family trees, and yes, I do live in a very progressive school district.
