Gang Rape Psychology

What happened to the presumption of innocence? I seem to remember a certain recent case in America. Duke, wasn’t it?

Actually, you singled them out. If you read the paragraph above in the same post you will see:

I suppose the poster didn’t want to be redundant.

No, the poster also said, after that,

Interesting that this got such a reaction. I tend to support the sentiment. There is a curious dichotomy here; we could reasonably assume that the girls understood, far better than the men, just how dreadful any woman would find this, and the depth of psycholocial harm that may be done. Guys seem to relate rape to aggravated assault, and little more. With little to no understanding of how devastating the long term issues many women victims face are. But the girls would have. So, in many ways, the girls involved were more inhuman than the males. They took joy in seeing, and helping in, my friend being assaulted and so damaged.

My understanding is that some reasonably solid prison terms were handed out.

And gang-rapers do not see their targets as part of “their” group, but as “other,” and as objects.

Race isn’t the only element of otherness out there. If only!

Whichever of those is the one about people thinking they’re being ordered to electrocute experimental subjects, I want to point out, it doesn’t show what people of then think it shows. Only 60 percent of participants went all the way. That’s not good, but it’s no where near showing “anyone can become a savage.”

It’s probably all about control.

But there’s another reason maybe. I’m reading this book, Transforming a Rape Culture. It’s pretty good. The book suggests that one reason why men gang rape is because they’re secretly gay inside. They hate their gayness. They’re ashamed of it. Because of society, religion, media, and also just because they’re disgusted with themselves. The female obviously doesn’t see the act as sexual because she’s being raped. But the men see the experience as sexual. They’re being connected with men to perform a sexual act. They probably form a connection and deeper relationship with their friends. What do you think?

2009? Huh, I’d forgotten about this thread until I saw my own post.

Well, I could see some of the more pathological closeted I’m-not-gay types doing that (although I expect the ones that aren’t gay would be just as bad since the problem isn’t that they are gay but that they fear being gay). Both out of a desire to “prove” they aren’t gay, and because the people who hate homosexuality have a lot of overlap with the ones that hate women, so two birds, one stone in their eyes; they “prove” they aren’t gay and get to hurt a woman in the process.

Since the thread has been resurrected, I’ll point out that the football team case noted above collapsed last year.

Absolute twaddle.
Seriously, all, or even majority of gang-rapers are gay?
