Actually, I’ll have to correct myself; in Bullitt, IIRC, Genge does have a line, asking a nurse where a certain patient (who he put in the hospital in the first place) is.
Ben Kingsley as Don Logan in Sexy Beast. I was almost praying for him to violently break out to relieve the tension of waiting.
He counts, all right. I was coming in here to nominate him.
As for Michael Madsen, he scares the crap out of me. I just can’t seem to forgive him for that scene in Reservoir Dogs. I shudder whenever I hear “Stuck in the Middle With You” (but I listen to it anyway).
When I was thinking of Madsen and Mickey Rourke several posts ago, I kept having this mental image of some scene where there’s all manner of gore and whoever I’m trying to identify has blood all over his hands and is smoking a cigarette while doing something else with his hands that’s involved with either torturing or mutilating the victim. It may have been the “Stuck in the Middle” scene or where Angel is doing some dirty deed on one of his victims, but I can’t quite shake the feeling that there’s somebody else I should be seeing in that image. It’s really a laid-back scene with no hurry and a real ice-in-the-veins detachment.
Any help here on what I’m almost seeing?
It sounds like the Reservoir Dogs scene, only I can’t quite visualize the bloody hands.
(They would have had to be bloody, I just don’t recall seeing them.)
It may just be but the image of the cigarette being somewhat bloody itself and whoever it is daintily putting it in his mouth with the same hand that’s holding something else, like a knife or a screwdriver or maybe even a piece of rope, is just about as clear as the image of Madsen holding the cop’s ear.
Harry Angel was also doing some grisly stuff to at least one of his victims like the old guy with all the medicine in the fridge or the fortune teller (Cruzemark?).
BTW, wasn’t DeNiro effective in Angel Heart? Not quite enough to get any awards but definitely on the spooky side. I think I read (or heard in an interview) that he based the look of that character on Scorsese. It would fit.
