Well, I’m sure she would have managed to crash the global economy again and that will pretty much do it. Right now, Sept and Oct oil futures were trending down due to concerns over the EU economy, so I’m not sure how we’ll hit $5/gal unless they gouge the prices.
Yeah, tell me about it. It now costs almost £90 (US$140) to fill my tank. There were mass protests a few years ago when the price hit 85p a litre. Now it’s heading for double that and we just bend over and take it. 
Because Romney’s [del]owners[/del] er [del]investors[/del] er [del]sponsors[/del] … donors (aka Koch Brothers) don’t like any talk of lowered gas prices. Plus now we’re apparently going to take over Canada and Mexico, then drill the snot out of every shoreline and frac the daylights out of ever piece Federal land… so we can become energy independent by 2020. Good thing Palin built that bazillion dollar pipeline (all by herself) so we can get that Alaskan LNG down here!
ETA: Sure hope Exxon and ConcoPhillips don’t mind being told who to buy oil from.
You do realize that $5/gal would pretty much tank the economy into a recession, right? I wouldn’t call preventing such a thing “retarded”.
The economy is going to tank anyway come this fall or winter. Gas at $5/gallon would merely added to what is coming.
